:slappy: right on. ND's biggest problem right now is that they totally sold out a good coach with boatloads of integrity, a record with a significant number of big-time victories against schools that clearly had more talent than ND, and a roster that wasn't even all his recruits yet ... for what?

The flavor of the week.

Willingham got jobbed, and every coach in america knows it. Even though his team would lay an egg every once in a while, they managed to put it together quite often against a regularly ridiculous schedule. Imagine what Ty could do with a team that had the type of depth all top tier programs have. Was Ty building that depth? I'm not a ND fan, so I don't know ... but I'll bet the trustees at ND sure as hell don't know either.

Brutus564's list might as well be the "coaches that want the ND job."

What coach is gonna want to go to ND? What high-school prospects are gonna want to go to ND? On a side note, does anybody even watch NBC anymore? It's the last channel I think of flipping to on a saturday when I'm looking for a football game.

ND is on the express-lane to being in the same league as University of Chicago, minus the integrity.

I hope the ND administration at least gives itself a goodnight kiss, 'cuz they just fucked themsleves good...
No doubt.

Thank God Andy Gieger has a set of nuts and a mind of his own, or we'd have fired Tressel for Urban Meyer last week.

Arrogance

I thought OSU was bad when they canned 9-3 Earle Bruce. They got nothing on ND.

I hope ND gets their 20th pick and the guy who accepts the job gets $10 Million over 5 years, because he's only gonna get 3 years (but at least he will get $10 Million.)

This program deserves to struggle. How arrogant to think they can get any coach they want for $1 Million/year, and get the best AND smartest kids in the country, because they're ND.

Maybe in 1950, maybe in 1960, but not in 2005.

I hope they don't see any BC$ money for years to come.

Yesterday on their board they were tossing around the names of every coach in the country. :roll2:

"Maybe we should get Stoops or Gruden or Carrol" etc. Give me a break, you couldn't get Utah's coach!!

Don't forget the way the media played on our ability to get a coach when Cooper got canned. Having to go outside Div IA, etc. We seem to be pretty happy with Tressel! So, ND may still get someone good. But, gosh, isn't it nice to see these over-rated domers get a real idea of where their football program really is?

The student demonstration to bring back Ty will be forming by Wednesday!

Ty Had Enough Time

please, enough of this race bs!! zook got fired from florida in 3 years...where is the outrage. dinardo got fired in 3 yrs from indiana...where is the outrage...crowton got fired in 4 yrs from byu without finishing his contract...where is the outrage. gilbertson got fired in 15 months from washington...where is the outrage. fact of the matter is willingham was not, and is not, a good coach. he seems like a fine, decent human being but as a coach he doesn't cut it. he has one good season at standford, where his winning percentage was barely over .500 (44-36-1) and he is the second coming?? be serious folks! he was eight games over .500, 8!! he was 6 games over .500 at n.d.! that does not make him a good coach. just look at the record and stop this stupid race b.s., hold him to the same standards as other coaches.

ND will have to think outside the box now that their favored candidate has gone to Florida.

I just love the speculation that it is going to be Gruden or Mariucci from the NFL. They seem to think just their name will have these guys take multi-million dollars annual paycuts to coach at a school that prides itself on tying the hands of coaches with which recruits can be pursued.

There is no way that Mooch leaves Detroit by choice. He is back home, gets $5 million a year, has his best buddy down the road in E. Lansing, and has lots of slack with trying to turn around the Lions.

I just don't see Gruden heading out of Tampa Bay by choice either. Also has a huge contract, has won at the NFL level and probably wants to show everyone he can do it again.

It will probably be some college level coach or coordinator. The worst part for ND is that they have fired a good coach, chased and lost their first choice, and every day they go without a new coach their reputation takes a hit. Recruits are shying away from them, their athletic director seems to be out of his league and their board is doing more harm than good. For every alum on TV I see supporting the program they are outweighed by another who is pissed that the school broke their word to Ty.

ND is going to muddle around and it could be years before they recover from this fiasco if it goes on for an extended period. I don't feel too bad as they are reaping what they have sown.
