When does "great offense" equal crappy defense?

Tonight, the Arizona defense who allowed 44 points (38 in regulation) to Oregon's "great offense" has already allowed 17 points to the Cornhuskers early in the second quarter.

Great offense or crappy defense? Looks like crappy defense to me, unless Nebraska turned into an offensive juggernaut since the Big XII season. :roll2:

It was 31 in regulation. I just re-watched that game this morning. :wink2:

Even better. Nebraska's lousy offense scored more points in 4 quarters versus Arizona than Oregon's "great" offense.

Not so fast sir. I think Oregon does have quite an offense. Just ran into a buzz saw today.

I think they played some crappy defenses. We saw what a real defense could do to them today.

Moreover, it's not just about the Ducks. It's about 51-42 games where media and "fans" rave about the 51 points scored and overlook the 42 points allowed along the way. Read the entire thread.

Cincinnati's "great offense", and the same media and "fans", appear to be learning a similar lesson as I type.

Look, from what I saw from Oregon, the offense was pretty damn good and our defense, played an incredible game. To knock Oregon's offense is to denegrate what our defense did today...don't ruin it.

I'm not ruining anything. You missed the point of the entire thread. It is much bigger than today's game. :roll1:

I agree. Ohio State showed that they could hold Oregon to 17 points in a 60-minute football game. But in a 75-minute football game, Oregon may easily score another 17 points. Who knows?

Of course, Ohio State's game plan was created around a 60-minute football game, and it worked beautifully. If the game were 75 minutes, they'd make another game plan that may work just as well. My point is (I know I'm not making it clearly) that Oregon has a very good offense that Ohio State shut down very well. Just because Ohio State's defense is that good, doesn't mean that Oregon's offense isn't that good.

Gee, really? I had no idea. Oregon's offense is actually pretty good. If only that was the point of the thread. :roll1:

I'll say it again, this thread existed a year before we played Oregon, and it goes way beyond Oregon. It is more about public perception of "great football", and our dominance of Oregon's offense drove the point home.

You cheapen what our defense did when you say stupid shit like you do.
This thread wasn't "stupid" until you came along. It is obvious you didn't read it before firing off insults.

Are you honestly going to tell me you predicted this season for LSU?

To an extent....yes. I knew they would not be in contention to get the SEC championship. I figured LSU would lose to Alabama and Florida. I didn't realize Les Miles would forget how to coach for the Ole Miss game (speaking about clock management)

After seeing the pairings between LSU and PSU, I figured PSU would win.

So the only surprise this season was the Mississippi game for me.

Actually, you're incorrect as usual. This thread is a discussion of whens and ifs, but your foolish arrogance and need to bash Oregon after our win negates the fact that Oregon DOES have a great offense and it's NOT because the Pac10 only has no defense...their offense stands on it own despite our defensive dominance. But you're too young and immature to own that.

Good job learning....or....maybe not.

Let me move this back onto the thread topic. I wasn't terribly surprised that the Big Ten did as well as it did in the bowl games that mattered. I was a bit surprised that the PAC 10 did so poorly.

What is the best way to detect if great offense in a conference is really bad defense?
