Where is the best place to see the Rocky Mountains

Best Buckeye

Pretending I'm a pleasant person is exhausting.

The Mrs. and I would like to use a vacation to see the Rockies , which we have never seen closer than from 35,000 to 50,000 feet up.
So My question is in which state or area do we get the best of the Rockies.
I would like to se them starting from a long way off and gradually come up to them.
Any suggestions?

Driving I-70 into Colorado, towards Denver, offers a great perspective. Basically a 2 day drive from Ohio.
FortCollins may want to chime in here.............................
The Rockies run from Canadian border all the way to New Mexico. A huge area. My picture window has a spectacular view of the Sangre de Cristo range of the southern Rockies.

Can you make one post without talking about your pathetic town or house?

bump for more stuff.
travel tips are welcome too.
Train or bus through Kansas City? or west out of Chicago.
Or maybe fly to albequerque or Colorado springs?
Or maybe another destination??
Does Montana have an airport? :wink2:
Is Wyoming near the rockies?
I like the drive idea north from NM and the what NFBuck says about the springs area.
And Scripts link made a couple drives appealing.
hell I just might go up through them all

Yes, and that would be my choice:

Both Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks are great and in the NW corner of the state (i.e. fairly close together).

Idaho Falls ID, Butte, MT, Billings MT, Bozeman MT, Cody WY, or Jackson Hole WY are a few relatively close airports. Note: flying into a smaller airport can be more expensive with more connections than flying into a larger one like Denver CO or Salt Lake City UT, etc.
