Which CB Will Replace Fox?

It's tough to say now what's gonna happen. EJ could come out and take the bull by the horns for the job next season. One thing that's a definite positive compared to when Gamble went both ways is that the DB depth is much better. I think Ginn has a chance to play both ways but I would guess everything comes down to Underwood and the next tier of DB's like Lane, B. Underwood, Roberts, or one the incoming recruits steps up. Ginn playing both ways I don't think is the idle scenario but if there's anyone that's up it's Ginn.

I don't have anything against EJ personally, but I hope to hell he doesn't get another chance at corner. He got burned in early 2002 before Gamble stepped in and got burned this year as Gamble's replacement.

As for SirJo, I agree with bucknut11 that he's a safety all the way.

May be..Ginn GOT MOVED to WR because we had no proven receiver after Holmes whereas coaches felt that they ha enough CB's with Fox, Underwood(who didn't pan out) and AY. Considering that Tressel did quote EJ as the most talented CB he has coached and always has enough praise for AY as a very dependable and consistenT CB..it would be easy to see getting Ted Ginn on the offensive side would be the best way to utilize him..Now with Fox gone and EJ not being a gamer, it's highly probable that TG will start as CB and as a receiver..

Wrong. Ginn got moved to WR because that was the quickest way to get him on the field, and they couldn't get him on the field at corner. Remember the struggles Ginn had his first couple games, with running incomplete routes and having problems holding onto the ball? So, it wasn't like he was better than all other WRs from the gitgo. But the staff knew he could improve his pass routes, along with his confidence in catching ball, with simple game experience. Fortunately for us, things started to click for him at WR and we all saw the results. It's far easier for a WR to improve his routes than it is for a corner to improve his coverages. Again, for the umpteenth time, if Ginn was indeed better than the other corners, he would've been starting there, but he's not...yet. And even if he ends up being as good as any other corner, where would he pay off best, at WR or CB? If I'm a coach and I have a CB that's even 90% as good as Ginn, I play that guy at CB and let Ginn be full-time WR.

If the worst happens and EJ Underwood can't return to the team, who starts opposite Youboty? Do you take a chance on Ginn getting hurt? Seems like the only major concern going into this season.
Jamario O'Neal may be a very real possibility, at least for a nickel back corner until we can bring in small & rolle

Ginn is a possibility, but Sirjo Welch is an amazing tackler and might do well if he has average coverage abilities. Remember, Fox was a great open field tackler, was fast, could jump, but could get beat too. And we played some solid D with him back there at corner.

I really think eventually JT will move Ginn to corner. He's supposed to be a stud there, and will have a lot better chance of playing on sundays at that position, with a little WR and lots of returning kicks and punts thrown in. Not sure if that will happen this year tho.

I would like to see O'Neal start as a freshman. I think he has the ability to have a huge impact on defense. He needs to harness his ability and learn the game at this level but he has the talent to shut down WR's all around the league.

I haven't had a lot of time to check out our depth chart recently - too busy with work and life in the off season. Who is most likely redshirting and who isn't?

Whats everyone else's take?

Springs nor Winfield nor Plummer nor Clemments started as true freshman.....

might have had more to do with depth though?
i think it is a lot to ask especially in our defenive scheme that is very assignment

based and not much bump and run man coverage.

WHitner was the nations #1 CB when coming out of glenville anyone think he may move over to CB in a pinch? we have much more depth at S than CB

Hard not to play Ginn Jr. both ways, he wants to and we know the Defensive Coaches are hoping JT lets him. If he goes both ways it's a risk for sure but it would definitely increase his chances of bringing home the Hiesman.
