Welcome to the seventeenth installment of the "Greatest Buckeyes Ever" poll - this one allows you to vote for the best current Buckeyes. Every Saturday, we will post a poll on "Who's the Greatest Buckeye" at each of the positions. The last poll, head coach, will open on the day of THE GAME, and close on December 30th. By New Years Day, we will have the Buckeye Planet All-Time Buckeye Team.

All players selected for the poll will be from the "modern era", which we have more-or-less arbitrarily determined to have begun with the hiring of Woody Hayes in 1951. However, there will be special polls for the current Buckeyes and older Buckeye stars, where you will be allowed to choose amongst such greats as Les Horvath, Vic Janowicz, Chic Harley, etc.

Please vote on each poll, if you can. Also, please note that each poll will allow you to vote at least twice, as we would like to compile a first and second team. If you vote for "other", please let us know your selection(s) by setting forth the name(s) in a post.

Polls will be posted as follows:

1. Quarterback (CLOSED - Rex Kern is the first team QB, with Craig Krenzel as the second team selection)
2. Tailback (CLOSED - no surprise: Archie is first team, Eddie is second)
3. Athlete (CLOSED - Paul Warfield and Chris Gamble are first team; Cie Grant and Brian Bashnagel are second)
4. Fullback (CLOSED - Pete Johnson first team and Jim Otis second team)
5. Wide Receiver (CLOSED - Cris Carter and David Boston first team, Michael Jenkins and Joey Galloway second team)
6. Tight End (CLOSED - John Frank first team, Rickey Dudley second team)
7. Offensive Tackle (CLOSED - Orlando Pace, John Hicks, and Korey Stringer first team; Jim Davidson and Chris Ward second team)
8. Offensive Guard (CLOSED - Jim Lachey and Jim Parker first team; Rob Murphy and Ken Fritz second team)
9. Offensive Center (CLOSED - LeCharles Bentley first team, Jeff Uhlenhake second team)
10. Defensive Tackle (CLOSED - Dan Wilkinson and Jim Stillwagon first team; Tim Anderson and Jim Marshall second team)
11. Defensive End (CLOSED - Mike Vrabel and Will Smith first team; Alonzo Spellman and Matt Finkes second team)
12. Linebacker (OPEN - Chris Spielman leads, with Randy Gradishar, Andy Katzenmoyer, Tom Cousineau, and Pepper Johnson also showing well)
13. Safety (OPEN - Jack Tatum and Michael Doss lead)
14. Cornerback (OPEN - Shawn Springs and Antoine Winfield lead)
15. Kicker (OPEN - Vlade Janakievski and Dan Stultz, with a populist uprising for Mike Nugent)
16. Punter (OPEN - Surprisingly, Andy Groom leads over Tom Skladany and Tom Tupa)
17. Current Buckeyes (OPEN)
18. "Old Time" Buckeyes
19. Head Coach

So, please vote now for those current Buckeyes whom you feel will some day be accounted amongst the OSU greats; please make as many selections as you would like.

Thanks for your participation.

I voted for Ginn (future Heisman candidate), Hawk (All American), and of course Nugent (will be in the Ohio State Hall of Fame some day). I also voted for "other", as there is some great young talent on this team, with possible future stars being Devon Lyons (has the physical tools), Rory Nicol (seeing significant playing time as a true freshman), Sirjo Welch (special teams demon), just to name a few.

I'm going with my esteemed colleagues LordJeffBuck, bucknuts44820, BuckeyeBill73, and say Nugent, Hawk, and Ginn for sure. Actually, Nugent is already an all-time great and is the best Buckeye place-kicker ever, in my mind. Hawk is arguably already an all-time great with three stellar seasons, and with a senior year like his previous three, he could be argued to be the best Will ever at Ohio State. All Ginn has to do is stay healthy and there's no doubt he'll be one of the biggest impact players here ever.

Hawk, Ginn Jr., Nugent, Salley, and Holmes. One player who I think needs to be an option on that list is Youboty. He is developing into quite a good player.

I have faith that Santonio Holmes will pick up where he left off in week 3.

I picked Hawk, Nugent and Ginn as well but added another whom I might get slammed for.....Troy Smith.

Troy solely on potential. IF he retains the starting job and improves he could very well have the best stats of any QB at tOSU. He's already 3-0 and next year his offensive weapons will be very nice. Maybe he won't but I've got hunch he'll end up being a very good QB at OSU.

Ginn, Hawk, Nuge...and my darkhorse Pittman. I like either Pittman or Haw to really be a break-out stud. I still can't wait to see Haw in action. His size and speed are unbelievable, but the nod goes to Pittman right now because he has great vision and can hit the holes and bounce it out well. But I find it amazing that more people have voted for TG2 than have voted for AJ. Come on people...A.J. Hawk is only a Junior and already has put up serious career numbers. Ginn definitely has tons of potential to be a star, but A.J. is already there.
