We'll ignore the fact the thread devolved so rapidly because of a Buckeye fan's inability to simply laugh at a funny comment by Jason Avant, and instead focus on a tidbit that came out later in the thread. The pissing contest included a claim that scUM has better NFL WR's and LB's CURRENTLY than tOSU does. I'd like to focus on the WR's for now, LB's can be their own thread later.

None of those scUM WRs have ever been stars in the NFL. Holmes is a star. Too bad Terry Glenn and Joey Galloway are just now retired, not to mention David Boston had some monster years. Could of been 4-0 Bucks. Instead, we'll just have to win 1-0.

Lets see, historical stats for given Michigan and Ohio State players:

Michigan WR's:
154 Games Started, 795 Receptions, 11,395 Yds, 62 TDs


Ohio State WR's:
194 Games Started, 912 Receptions, 12,764 Yds, 66 TDs.

Pretty sure the definitive answer is Ohio State. More starts, more receptions, more yardage, more TDs.

The only advantage they have is that their #1 WR has more games, yardage and TDs than any Ohio State player currently (Braylon Edwards), but that is about it. They only have 4 WRs with any notable stats, while Ohio State has 5.

Going forward, who knows, but if you add in the 1990's and such with Glenn and Galloway, it would likely be heavily in Ohio State's favor.

Michigan fans know about as much about quality football as ICP does about magnets.

While Edwards has played one more season than Holmes, Edwards' career averages are every bit as good as Holmes'. In fact, Edwards scored 25 of his 39 touchdowns in his first 3 seasons, which is one less than Holmes has scored in his 5 seasons.

Also, while Holmes has the upper hand on Manningham as of right now in terms of career totals, I would argue that Manningham is more explosive. Holmes recorded an 83 yard catch. the longest of his career, in 2007. Last season, Manningham two scored touchdowns longer that in back to back weeks. After burning the eventual Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers for a 85 yard score, he burnt Washington Redskin cornerback DeAngelo Hall, arguably one of the best in the league today, for a 92 yard TD, which went down as the longest touchdown catch of 2010. All of Manningham's 14 career came in the last two seasons as the third wide receiver. With Steve Smith leavng the NY Giants for Philly, (personally, I always thought that Manningham was better, but I'm admittedly biased), Manningham's prodution will likely increase if he stays healthy.

While Holmes Super Bowl MVP Award is nothing short of impressive, to say that he's head & shoulders above all of Michigan's receivers is a tad bit far fetched, especially compared to Edwards.
