BTW, Nuge did make the team - even though the poll was for former players. After receiving much input from Buckeye fans, I made an exception for Mike.

I hope to revive the polls this coming fall, although I doubt that the results will change much.

As soon as I can locate the Greatest Buckeye Ever final results, I'll "stick" it to the top of this forum for a while.

I think Nugent may have set the record for carrer FG percentage of FGs of 40 or more yards. The current record listed in JAXBUCK's link is:

HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF FIELD GOALS MADE, 40 YARDS OR MORE
Career
(Min. 20 made) 72.1%—Billy Bennett, Georgia, 2000-03 (31 of 43)

Nugent's career percentage of 40+ yard FGs is 78.4% (29/37). Here's his career breakdown of FGs of 40-49 yards and 50+ yards:

<table width=50% cellspacing=0 border=0 cellpadding=3><tr bgColor=de3129><td colspan=3><font size="2" face="arial" color="#ffffff"><b>Totals</b></font></td><td colspan=2 align=center><font size="2" face="arial" color="#ffffff"><b>Kicking</b></font></td></tr><tr bgColor="#c1c1c1" align=right><td colspan=2 align=left><font size=1 face="verdana, arial"><b>SEASON</b></font></td><td><font size=1 face="verdana, arial"><b>40-49</b></font></td><td><font size=1 face="verdana, arial"><b>50+</b></font></td><tr bgColor="#efefe7" align=right><td colspan=2 align=left><font size=2 face=arial>2004</font></td><td><font size=2 face=arial>7/9</font></td><td><font size=2 face=arial>5/6</font></td><tr bgColor="#ffffff" align=right><td colspan=2 align=left><font size=2 face=arial>2003</font></td><td><font size=2 face=arial>4/5</font></td><td><font size=2 face=arial>2/2</font></td><tr bgColor="#efefe7" align=right><td colspan=2 align=left><font size=2 face=arial>2002</font></td><td><font size=2 face=arial>9/11</font></td><td><font size=2 face=arial>1/1</font></td><tr bgColor="#ffffff" align=right><td colspan=2 align=left><font size=2 face=arial>2001</font></td><td><font size=2 face=arial>1/3</font></td><td><font size=2 face=arial>0/0</font></td><tr></tr></table>

...There are a ton of seperate records however and he might be able to do something with career fg% over 50 yds.

Unfortunately, he doesn't qualify in the HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF FIELD GOALS MADE, 50 YARDS OR MORE category for either a season or career. For the season record, you need a minimum of 10 attempts (who in the fuck is going to attempt ten 50-yarders in a season?!), and for the career record you need a minimum of 15 attempts (Nugent has nine in his career I think).

I remember a kid from UCLA in the 80's who had some sick career numbers.

HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF FIELD GOALS MADE, UNDER 40 YARDS
(Min. 40 made) 96.4%—John Lee, UCLA, 1982-85 (54 of 56)

Ok, OK, Let me make my stupid post and then you can whistle me for an "old fart violation" and push me back 15 years.

Chic Harley, cause he had to drop kick, no wussy holder in those days. He made AA as a runner, punter and place (drop) kicker and he "built Ohio Stadium."

Tad Weed (53 - 55) because he was so small and came up so big in so many games.

and Lou Groza cause they named the damned trophy after him... and if it hadn't been the war years so that he could have played all three years then allowed, and if the NFL would count his AAFC points the way they allowed AFL points to count in NFL records, he'd be damn near tops...

Finally, it has to be Nuge if you are going to insist on running these polls based on "The Ultra Modern Era." In all fairness to him, he probably deserves it and I bear him no grudge, but there have been a lot of fine kickers in OSU history.
