Who will be OSU's unsung player?

The KSB

4-4-11/11-5-11
As most of you probably know CollegeFootballNews.com is doing a series on the unsung players in college ball. http://collegefootballnews.com/2004/Players/117_Players.htm They are picking 117 players, 1 from each D1A team. Who do you think they will pick for OSU. I kinda thought it would be Izzy, but well.... Then I thought Bobby Carpenter, but I've been reading a lot of stories in the national media about our LB's mentioning his name prominently. So who do you think it will be, Mangold, Fox, one of the new DL's?

originally i thought maybe David Patterson because he's a star in the making. maybe not though, i guess he's not even supposed to start yet. in that case, i'd have to go with any of the guys from the secondary: Whitner, Salley, Underwood, or Fox (he deserves some good recognition).

edit: completely unrelated to the topic, but i noticed you're in Salem as well, kentstatebuck. nice little town, huh?

unsung as in good but gets no recognition and probably never will: got to by long snapper kyle andrews. we all saw how bad it is when the backups snap in the scrimmages this year.

unsung as in a superstar in the making but not a national name as of now: tough call. my candidates on D are donte whitner, ej underwood, and marcus green. O candidates are ryan hamby and roy hall. best guess is hamby. i bet hamby gets at least some recognition as some level of all conference this year and is a top 5 drafted tight end when it is all said and done. not a top 5 overall pick but a top 5 drafted tight end.

Gorilla picked my brain, but I'll flip flop on Hall over Hamby. Roy Jr. could be the next David Boston. His size is almost identical and his basketball background makes him a bitch to go up with. Hamby is good enough to have kept Izzy on the bench for the next year. Izzy's imminent dismissal will never be missed. Nicol and/or Hoobler will fill in nicely once Ryan is gone. Agreed Hamby will be a top-notch NFL caliber TE.

who should receive recognition, but doesn't?

EASY! Dustin Fox. hands down. everyone knows he should move over to his 'natural position' at safety, for goodness sake!

no need to mention the fact that in over 1,100 pass plays, he has NEVER given up TD deep... 1st round... chris WHO??

Unfourtanetly Thomas Matthews won't crack the starting line up.....but I think he'd make that list in a better scenario, I've enjoyed his energy this past spring. I'd also consider Ryan Hamby, considering how involved Hartsock was last year and not having LI pushing for playing time.

The Washington fans should remember Simon Fraser from last year's opener. Plus there's a University of the same name in British Columbia, a little ways across the border, to help them with name recognition, eh!

I'll say Bobby Carpenter. Hawk and Schlegel are getting a lot of talk, and deservedly so, but Carpenter will make his share of big plays.

I agree, but who says his natural position is safety? Dustin Fox was one of the most bashed players last year. Up there with Krenzel, Ross, Hall, and O-line. I remember somebody from bucknuts got on him after the Purdue. That was one of his best games of the year. Actually he did get beat against Illinois in 2002. The game where that Illinois receiver was spewing racial remarks towards Fox.
