Who will be the new coach?

Nothing really, Jlb. Just trying to comprehend what is going on. But, If a new coach comes in I'd like to see a big name. The Big Ten is falling enough in all sports.
That has to stop.
Well Thad Matta is a rising young star in the coaching ranks and with his combination of youth and accomplishments, he'd be an excellent hire. Not everybody knows his name right now, but if OSU wants to make a statement about how serious it is about fixing this program, RMK is the only name I can think of that is better than Matta.

Johnny Dawkins is 39 years old, married with 4 children.

During his last 5 years at Duke as an associate head coach, the Blue Devils have won 1 NC, 4 consecutive ACC championships, 4 straight Tournament titles with an overall 164-19 record.

Most importantly, Dawkins is responsible for the player development program, resulting in 6 NBA Lottery picks. And, a hell of a recruiter.

Nice resume'.

Who will be the next coach? Whoever it is I hope that it is someone who obeys the rules instead of putting the program at risk. I've read a lot of posts singing OB's praises, but let's face it...he cheated and now the specter of the NCAA is looming. I don't care what his intentions were; he has put OSU in a bad light. This school will always be under the microscope...it is the price of being successful. Hey, we're not UNLV; we don't need a Jerry Tarkanian as our coach. Is that too harsh? I think not. I'll bet that Tarkanian thought that he was merely helping out his players when he was constantly breaking the rules, too. I want the Buckeyes to be a winning, successful program. However, more than that, I want it to be a CLEAN one as well. Personally, if the NCAA does come down hard on this, I hope that the university sues O'Brien for his inexcusable conduct.

I'd have to say I'm somewhat against bringing in Bob Knight. I think he'd do a good job, but I'm not sure I want to bring in someone with his propensity for controversy.

I'd heartily endorse an offer to Xavier's coach as I believe he's done a great job there so far....plus you'd think he'd already have some strong recruiting ties for the state of Ohio.

Chris Jent. He knows what it's like to spend time on the OSU bench. Also, he's got a couple of NBA championship rings.
with who? the Pistons? nope. the Bulls? no. the Rockets? don't think so, but could be wrong? Bulls again? no. Spurs? no. Lakers? no. Spurs again? no.

once again, with who? last i heard, Jent was 6th man of the year in the CBA... and that was a LOOOOOONG time ago...

No offense, but any goofball can be successful at Duke, considering it's the basketball college in the country. They can get any kid they want.

Sue O'Brien? Good grief, where does this stuff come from? He violated the terms of his contract, he got fired. That's the penalty.

I'd prefer hiring a lower stature head coach then somebody's assistant coach. That approach has worked well IMO--Tressel, Cooper, Bruce, Woody, OB, etc. Although the great Fred Taylor was promoted from within OSU.

What highly qualified coach is going to be coming our way before we know the outcome of the NCAA investigation(s)? I cannot imagine signing on unless you know the penalties are not going to be severe.

If someone really believes that OSU is a job they could hold for 15 or 20 years they might be willing to endure 2 or 3 years of NCAA sanctions. I'm sure Geiger knows a lot about how the investigation will turn out and will be able to tell them what is likely.

Knight's age is one of the things that has made me reconsider my opposition to him as a coach. Barring severe sanctions he would almost assuredly turn this program around within two years. When he was ready to leave - perhaps not that far down the road - he would be turning over a much more attractive program, thus making it easier for OSU to land the caliber of coach that at the present is only a pipe dream.
