Game Thread Wisconsin 13, tOSU 31 (Oct 10, 3:30 ET, ABC/ESPN)

My belated thoughts on the game:

1. Wisconsin's offense is overrated. I heard all week (and just prior to the game, thanks to Matt Millen) how great the UW running game was and, in particular, how UW's offensive line is outstanding. Yet, when they faced a solid defensive front, they fell apart like a $30 suit. Six sacks could have easily been eight, ten, or twelve, but I'll gladly take the two pick-6s instead. John Clay isn't the feature back that UW fans think he is. In my opinion, he's a slightly more athletic version of P.J. Hill (which isn't saying a whole lot). The one bright spot of their offense, in my opinion, is Tolzien. He made some nice passes (and some bad ones) on a day in which his offensive line was beaten terribly. He was even better than I thought he'd be. UW's red zone offensive prowess wasn't exactly on display either--the offense didn't get into the end zone, and UW needed trickeration (and an uncalled block in the back) to get in the end zone even once on the afternoon.

2. Our defense is stellar. Much was already said above, but our defense absolutely dominated UW. The only time UW scored a TD, it was on our special teams, and even then UW only had the ball that close to the goal line because they returned an INT to the 10 or so yard line.

3. Our offense isn't getting a fair shake from what I've heard. A lot of the post-game comments were all over our offense, but I don't think this is quite fair. Admittedly, for much of the first half, the offense didn't do much. However, when UW needed a big stop right before the half, we drove the ball right down the field, despite starting the drive inside our own 15. For that drive, UW didn't look like it knew what hit them, as Pryor was running all over them, our WRs were getting open, and Pryor and Posey hooked up on a great TD pass. We needed that drive right before halftime, especially with UW getting the ball first in the second half, and when the chips were on the table, our offense stepped up and UW's defense did not.

As for the second half, it's kind of hard for your offense to look good when, due to your defense's stellar play and utter domination, you don't have the ball and when you do, your primary objective is milking the clock. It would have been interesting to see what the offense could have done in the second half, but I'm glad we had a big enough lead that we didn't need to--it's always good to be in shut-down mode at the beginning of the fourth.

4. Bielema's comments.

I hate losing to these guys. Absolutely, it's something I can't stand for whatever reason. The bottom line is I have to do it again. It's something we'll continue to look at until we have another opportunity next year.

Weird. You often hear coaches say, "I hate losing," or something to that effect, but not often directed at a particular team, especially when that team isn't your rival. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Bielema hasn't ever beaten OSU while head coach at UW. Who knows. Just thought it was kind of odd.

you see those little red chiclets on the right side of your post? they mean that you're doing it wrong.
That means people don't like what I'm saying which is fine with me, I'm used to it. Rep points don't mean anything to me, the way I see it they only encourage people to say what they think others want to hear. If you all want to high five each other over an ugly win that's fine with me but be aware that everyone outside of C-Bus has put Iowa ahead of us in the Big Ten power rankings. I know it don't mean crap until the game is played but it means everyone else is seeing what I'm seeing.

It's too easy to jump on the bandwagon and bash the offense for whatever reason. I think the statistics do a good enough job at that, so I won't.

My only analysis of the game is that 31 is greater than 13 is. Hence, Buckeye victory.

I don`t think there is a better post than that to end this thread. Go Bucks

Put us on a neutral field with Iowa tomorrow, and I'd say we win by at least two TDs.

Their offense is anemic, and if we can totally shut down a pretty good offense like Wisky's to the tune of allowing 13 points (7 of which were scored on special teams as a result of an INT deep in our territory), I wouldn't be surprised if we shutout Iowa's offense altogether or held them to 6-7 points.

Their defense is solid, but nothing spectacular. Their D line is the only part of the defense that is good, IMO. Their D is light years behind USC's. Not saying we'd put up 35-40 points on them, but I'd feel pretty confident in saying that we could put up 20-24.

Keep in mind you're talking about a team that let UM hang around. In Iowa City. In a night game.

If the game were tomorrow, OSU 24 Iowa 7.

Oh noes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Big Ten Power Ranger Rankings? We're not first?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Whatever will we do????????????

Clue to you. The Big Ten power rankings get determined on the field. Iowa doesn't get a pass on Ohio State this year.

You think that was vulgar? I could make a whore blush.

My point was that you blamed coaching, when in fact you don't know jack shit about what he's being taught. My point was that when the game slows down for Terrelle, like it does for all QB's sooner or later, the coaching will come thru.

Well your right about the fact that we don't know what he's being taught, because it sure isn't showing up on the field. I don't know the new coach and in that case, I'm not going to blame the kid.

Actually when given time and on fast developing plays he usually looks great to me. It is the zeroing in on one receiver that makes me crazy. Example... I couldn't get the Toledo game on TV so I was reading the game on ESPN's play by play website. I saw that his first 7 completed passes went to 7 different players with a couple of TDs, great thought I. Then, that was followed by about 6 or 7 straight incomplete passes ALL of them thrown to DP and I thought oh crap here we go again. Jeeeez, just call some plays that force him to throw to someone else when he does that. Some screens or hell pull the receiver his currently in love with for a few plays, just to snap him out of it. And yes I know that isn't the QB coaches call, but it is his responsibility to know when his guy has gone brain dead and to suggest something to the play caller to help him out of it.
