Wisconsin Badgers (Official Thread)

Found not guilty of sexual assault, expelled WR Quintez Cephus eyes return to school — at Wisconsin or elsewhere

With the book closed on arguably the most difficult phase of his life, Quintez Cephus is looking to move on to the next chapter. Whether that will involve a return to Madison is another matter entirely.

Late last week, a Dane County (Wisc.) jury found Cephus not guilty on a pair of sexual assault charges. Two days after very loudly proclaiming his innocence and announcing he was taking a leave of absence from the Wisconsin football team, Cephus was charged in late August of last year with felony sexual assault of an intoxicated victim and felony sexual assault. The criminal complaint filed against him stated that he allegedly “sexually assaulted two drunken women at once in the bedroom of his apartment in April” of 2018.

It took a jury of his peers less than 45 minutes to acquit him on both of those counts Friday.

Cephus was initially suspended by the Badgers football program before being expelled by the university last semester. In October of last year, Cephus sued the University of Wisconsin-Madison in U.S. District Court, claiming that the school violated his constitutional rights. That suit was dropped in March of this year.

With the legal entanglement in his rearview mirror, Cephus is now turning his focus to a return to school and, ultimately, a football field. The player’s attorney told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel it’s uncertain whether his client will petition to return to UW or continue his academic and athletic endeavors elsewhere.

This Stat Is Why Wisconsin Isn't A Threat To Win The College Football Playoff

I got a little bit of flack for the tweet. I’m getting flack across the board in a post Akron -9 world (I deserve it), but I wanted to explain myself in more than 280 characters for my Wisconsin tweet.

I don’t hate Wisconsin at all. They are a great team this year. However, they won’t be good enough. Why? Because they just don’t have the talent.

According to 247Sports Team Talent Composite ratings (which rates current rosters based upon their recruiting/transfer ratings), Wisconsin has the 33rd most talented team in the country. I do something very similar for my #StackCashWithJackMac system (52-36, +11.98 units on the year) and have a similar finding. Based upon starters, Wisco ranks 29th in the country in pure talent.

Now, you may be thinking “wait, recruiting means nothing!” I am very happy to inform you that this isn’t the case, especially at the top of the country. Due to the work from Bud Elliot, we know that teams who win the national championship are teams with more 4 & 5-star scholarship players than not. No team has won the national championship with less than 50% 4 & 5-stars since modern recruiting rankings came into existence around 2000.

This year, Wisconsin comes nowhere close to that 50% mark. Teams that do: Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida State, Clemson, USC, Penn State, Michigan, Texas, Oklahoma, Auburn, Washington, Notre Dame, Florida, and Miami (FL). Based on history, those are the teams that are in the national title race.
.
.
.
My point is: talent matters in college football. A lot. I’d say Wisconsin’s performance on the field goes to show how great of a culture their program has and how good of a coach Paul Chryst.

I don't think Wiscy will win it all... but they can definitely ruin somebody's Saturday and/or Bowl Season.
Downranking a team because of Recruiting Rankings is some fucked up shit.
They have a better team than most of the schools in his list... I'd say all except the Superpower 4... and already clobbered one into submission.
And we'll probably have to play them twice.

So who here realistically thinks we'll lose to Wisky? Everyone all of the sudden seems on edge lol. Personally I think they're pretty much one dimensional on offense with Taylor, and with their QB able to make good throws here and there. On defense they seem legit, but they haven't played any good offenses yet. I think the highest rated offense they've played is Western Michigan. Thoughts?

They’re very solid on D in that they don’t take chances and they make the offense pay for mistakes. When Fields misses, he tend to miss high, and that could lead to disastrous turnovers. If the Buckeyes avoid turnovers and don’t give the Wiscy D too much respect by forgetting to run the football, they’ll win pretty comfortably. But Wiscy has a puncher’s chance.

I think we'll beat them. It's a long week going in b/c of the game on Friday, and we get bye and 2 cupcakes after too.
A bit more worried about a rematch... Wisconsin is probably good enough to win 2 times out of 10. And the motivation levels can be very different, on both sides, for a rematch.

If we see them 1 week after PSU and scUM... that will be a massive test of the coaching staff.
