The Ohio State University for the first time ever in the history of the Women’s Tennis program has been selected to host NCAA first and second round play. The Buckeyes Women’s Tennis Team – the winners of both the regular Big Ten season and the Tournament Title this past Sunday (May 1st) deservedly was seeded at # 4 in the 2016 NCAA Championship.

The tennis team ended the season with a 28-2 record. They will be matched up against Youngstown State (12-12) in the opening round at 1 p.m. May 13; UCLA (14-6) facing Notre Dame (14-13) in the other first round match-up at 10 a.m. The winning teams will meet at 4 p.m. May 14 for a spot in the NCAA Round of 16, which will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma. All matches are scheduled to be played outdoors at the Varsity Tennis Courts.

All-session tickets, which include all six matches (three women’s and three men’s), are $21 for adults and $12 for youth/students. Single day tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for youth/students on May 13 and May 15 and $12 for adults and $8 for youth/students May 14 when three matches are on the slate. Children 2 and under are free.

The selection is Ohio State’s third-straight trip to the tournament and the 13th appearance for the program overall.

The team has put in a lot of hours to have the chance to host NCAA matches,” Melissa Schaub, Ohio State head coach, said. “We are excited to host for the first time. We know when you get to the NCAA tournament the competition will be tough. We will be ready to go and look forward to having a good crowd in Columbus.”

The Buckeyes is one of the three Big Ten teams in the NCAA tournament, joining TTUN, the # 10 seed, and Northwestern.

The Buckeyes are 3-0 all-time vs. Youngstown State; posting 7-0 wins in 2014, 2013 and 2005.
