I think PSU and IOWA were playing a make-up baseball game from last season. That's why it was 6-4.

Sushi, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but the curse aint over. The curse never was just simply beating the Yankees... the curse is the World Series. If it's a respectable curse, it should last at least 100 years. 2018 is right around the corner.

Of course, if I'm wrong and the "curse" is broken this year by a Red Sox win, then it just means Boston has been bad, or choked every year since 1918. I think I'd rather be cursed.

WOO HOO! GO SOX!

I guess during the Pat's game they were showing clips of Ortiz to get the crowd pumped. :biggrin2: Sox are first in Bean Town.

That's a weird thing about Boston. Certainly there are lots of people that are diehard Sox and Pats fans, but overall it seems like the Red Sox and Pats have a completely different fan base. I live about 10 minutes from Gillette Stadium, so there are more Pats fans in my area. On a Sunday afternoon my apartment complex is full of screaming football fans, but they seem to be huge Sox fans only during the playoffs. I haven't quite figured out the dynamic yet.

Here's some weird omens that give us Sox fans some hope.....

We all know about the Gabe Kapler-Johnny Damon defensive numerology (19-18), and we all know how many seasons it's been since a win in the WS (86).

But here's one that's truly spooky.

The last three times the Red Sox were in the World Series were 67, 75 and 86. The difference between 67 and 86 ... 19 years. The difference between 86 and 04 ... 18 years.

19-18

So, you might ask, I'm conveniently forgetting the 75. I told you this was truly spooky, didn't I? Here it is: There is actually one Red Sox team which won the World Series after winning only 75 games during the regular season.

The year? ... 1918

Sox historian Dick Bresciani points out Boston traditionally has been the "daddy" of St. Louis. The Celtics defeated the St. Louis Hawks for their first NBA title, the Bruins defeated the Blues in 1970 for their first Stanley Cup in nearly 30 years and the Patriots defeated the Rams in 2002 for their first Super Bowl title.

Bresciani also said playing a team for the third time in the postseason usually helps the Sox. They defeated Cleveland on their third try in the ALDS in 1999, they downed the Yankees on the third try in the ALCS and now they're playing the Cardinals in the World Series after falling in 1946 and '67.

Hmm.... maybe a curse doesn't have to be 100 years or more...

You know, game 4 will have a lunar eclipse too....

Anway, good luck to all the Boston-ites this evening. I enjoy joking about the BoSox futility, but you are all good sports and take it well.
