Maybe it's just me, but how idiotic do you have to be to try this with your kids.

"We've tried reverse psychology, upside down psychology, spiral psychology and nothing has motivated them for any length of time," said Cat Barnard, 45, as she sat in a lawn chair at an umbrella-covered table.
Maybe they need to try kick-in-the-ass psychology.

This was on the news here last night.... all the news casters were basically laughing at them. Do they really think that this will work. If they really wanted to make a statement then they should do it in August when the heat is unbearable down here... right now it's 80/55 everyday.

Yup, this what the new age parenting revolution has brought us...no paddling, time out, passive response BS. Here is your result...I would have a permanent limp if I darkened my father's doorway looking this way:

Benjamin returned from school on Wednesday to find a dozen reporters in his parents' front lawn. He refused to say anything to them and went into the house followed by his mother, who tried to console him.
Yeah, lady, the problem is very difficult to see...take your freaking nipple out the boy's mouth.

They can thank the know-it-all psychologists that say corporal punishment leads to bad behavior, as if the behavior of these fuckin' punks is better. Another factor is the knee-jerk, overboard reactions to truly abusive parents who beat the shit out of their kids for no reason...now no parent can dispense any sort of discipline when needed or else Child Protective Services comes storming in like a Viking raid.

Cat Barnard, a stay-at-home mom, and her 56-year-old husband, a government social services worker, decided their children needed to learn about empathy and responsibility.
Hmmm...

Anyway, what exactly are the kids learning here?

1) If you can't solve your problem... run away.
2) If you're a big enough pain in the rear people will eventually leave you alone and you'll get your way.
3) No matter what happens you still have the roof over your head, clothes, food, etc.
4) No matter what's wrong with you... it's your parents fault (They may be right in this case).
5) If you can't get your way... quit!

How about you put the kids' stuff out on the lawn and change the locks ala Bree Vandekamp?

Unfortunately, in today's "enlightened", "progressive", and "sensitive" environment, that's not an option, lest CPS throw your ass in jail for "child endangerment".

Right along with the world's dumbest parents, we now the have the world's dumbest court, which wishes to take away the ability of parents to contorl their kids: :shake:

Court: Mom's Eavesdropping Violated Law

SEATTLE - Striking a blow for rebellious teenagers, the Washington Supreme Court ruled Thursday that state law prohibits parents from eavesdropping on a child's phone conversations.

The case reached the high court because of a purse-snatching. A 17-year-old boy was convicted of the robbery, in part on testimony from his girlfriend's mother, who overhead him discussing the crime on the phone with her daughter.

The daughter had taken a cordless phone into her bedroom and closed the door. In another room, her mother pressed the speakerphone button on an extension, listened in and took notes.

The court ruled that the daughter and her boyfriend had a reasonable expectation of privacy on the phone. Washington state law prohibits intercepting or recording conversations without the consent of all participants.

"The Washington privacy statute puts a high value on the privacy of communications," Justice Tom Chambers wrote in the unanimous opinion.

The boyfriend will get a new trial.

Wow, a court actually ruled that kids should have an expectation of privacy from their parents on their parents' line? Uncle Sam doesn't even have to put up with that crap.

About the parents on strike...How can I say this? They are morons. I didn't even finish reading the article and I was already thinking "at least get some reality film crew to tape this! That is easy cash. Now they'll get nothing, but someone will have a show mirroring this.

As a parent, I don't disagree too much with what the court ruled, and I'm a farily hard-liner on child discipline. The mother really didn't have any business listening to her 17-year-old kid's private conversation. It wasn't like it she just happened to overhear what her daughter said, but rather purposely tapped into the kid's conversation. Neither of my parents would've pulled a stunt like that, and it was 1974 when I was 17 and parents (especially mine) didn't take much shit from their kids back then. So if my parents would've afforded me a degree of privacy in their home, I'd think that today's kids have the same right.

I agree with this Mili. It appears that your parents treated you with respect and responsibility that a young adult needs, in this case privacy on the phone.

As for the striking parents, well they were pussified as parents many years ago. Personally, I am not one for paddling. I try the time out thing, take away PS2 for a couple of days (very effective BTW), go to bed earlier than normal, but on rare occasion I have paddled my two sons. Sometimes, and fortunately for me it has been very rare, that is the appropriate punishment. IMO these parents ONLY tried the time out type punishment with their kids and now they think camping out on the driveway is punishing the kids?!? Sometimes kids need a swift kick in the ass; I sure as hell know that I did.

The problem with the mother listening in on the phone is that the kid had a "reasonable expectation of privacy".

When my daughters start dating I will post "All calls may be monitored and/or recorded for your protection" signs over all the phones. No expectation... no problem! :wink2:

Seriously, I'll have to do something to monitor and/or restrict internet usage... too many sickos out there... ( ...and in here. :wink2: )

The beauty of this whole stupid thing is that these kids are going to absolutely trash the whole house and that stupid bitch is going to have to clean the whole thing anyway. What a fucking moron!

On a side note I wonder if either one of her kids are available for babysitting. I imagine they would be able to hook me up
