Would it have been better to lose vs. Wiscy?

Well, thanks for stating the obvious "its never good to lose," but my point was that we haven't really won a single game we shouldn't have won. We play in a fairly week conference and are lucky we didn't have to play at Indiana this year. We lost every big road game outside of MSU. While our record looks great and we won the conference I question how we will handle ourselves in the Big Dance with no home court advantage.
If it's good to lose a game in order to regain focus, then that's one theory that will sometimes fly with me. It is not good to lose a game that prevents you from controlling your own destiny. Losing to someone other than Wisky and still being able to win out for our championship is probably the way that I would have gone.

Does anyone remember Jan 8th '07? How our players (and fans) listened for weeks about how good they were, how Florida didn't belong, and how we were going to run them. Don't any of you think this could be the same type of cycle? Sometimes our offense looks so scared and inept it is embarassing. How many times do we try to get the ball to Oden and can't...or turn the ball over?
First of all. That date doesn't show up on my calendar. Therefore, it never happened. Secondly. No one is saying that our basketball team is great, and that they are going to run anybody. Up until last night many were saying that Florida should still be the #1 overall seed. Even after losing two games in two weeks(now three). So. No. I don't feel that the same thing is going to happen to the basketball team.

Lets not be so myopic here because that surely made us all look bad last time.
If someone disagrees with you, then they are being myopic? Sounds like a pretty myopic view to me.

Do you honestly think we're on a downswing or flat level right now jetfreak? You don't think this team is improving? Seeing as we're on a big win streak in our conference and lost all our games early while on the road against top 10 teams. I don't see how you think we're on a downswing. Have you watched the other "elite" teams go down lately such as Florida, UNC, Georgetown, Pitt, and Wisc?

I see absolutely no gain to losing to Wisconsin, especially the fact we would have little chance at a #1 seed in the tournament.

No. we should not have lost to Wiscy. This team has Improved every week in some area and played it's best game this year against them.
Confidence is what this team needs. Confidence in playing together, in each other, in being able to win hard games. Confidence in winning on the road.
With Oden starting so late it took this team a long time to get settled in and it appears that they are starting to be a very good unit.
GO BUCKS!

No its not good to lose and it wouldn't have been better for us to lose that game for 4 reasons.

1) Never ok to loose a game with that kind of meaning.
2) Lock up a 1 seed (pretty much).
3) Win the Big 10.
4) Builds confidence among the players to know that they are the number one team in the country and that they beat the number two team country which should be a huge confidence builder. Because it was a close game, they know that anyone can beat them on any given day, so they have to live up to their expectations and play their absolute best.

Strange...

Sky is temporarily banned for trolling bball threads with the chicken little thoughts of losing Matta...

Sky's alias (used for rep) is banned also...

You start a thread discussing the bball team and possibly being flat going into the tourney...

All of your IPs match...

Coincidence or is the AFB just full of chicken littles lately?

maybe matta did try and lose the game. maybe hes just not good at losing. i mean maybe hes tried to lose a lot of games especially at home over the last 3 years, but just cant find away.

while i question what direction this team is going and see a 'slump' i wonder how much of it has to do with wearing a target bigger than clevelands poverty problem on their back? how many of these teams have been practice just for matta and co for a week? two weeks? since the last time they played? since jan? since nov? since practiced opened? how many times do you see a team beat a team twice in a season. you have to be far superior to do it...

I think we are overrated historically for a #1 team. However, this year right now, we are the best team in the country. I just think everyone is playing like shit right now and we've been lucky enough not to lose. PSU and MSU both came down to a last second shot that had a chance to go in. Our offense at times looks extremely bad (considering the personnel). I agree with freak on that issue. However, losing to Wiscy would have accomplished nothing IMO. I am 50/50 on us getting past the sweet sixteen. Can we do it and make the final 4? Absolutely. Will we? Time will tell.

You guys will be fine. It's my team I'm worried about.

Hehe, exactly. How many of the other schools out there would trade their losses for our perceived "squeaker wins?" I'd bet all of em. The difference is that despite the fact that we've yet to play our best game, we're still winning! Sounds alot like a team in a different sport in say the year 2002 doesn't it. I'll continue to pick at supposed deficiencies like everyone else, but I'll only worry when or if we lose! :oh:
