Six Blazers receive All-Gulf South Conference honors
By Adam MacDonald
The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA ? Six Valdosta State Blazers were recognized for outstanding seasons yesterday when they were named to the All-Gulf South Conference football team.

Four players were named to the second-team from VSU. Receiver Albert Dukes, linebacker Larry Dean, punter Jack Fulford and deep snapper Joey Farmer earned second-team accolades.
Dukes was the only offensive player to be named from the Blazers. He was second on the team with 36 catches and had a team-high eight touchdown catches.
?It means a lot,? Dukes said. ?I said at the beginning of the year I came here to be a big part of this team and make a lot of plays and I feel accomplished with this award. I wouldn?t have won it without my quarterback and offensive line.?

After going unbeaten last season, the Chicago Slaughter hopes to grab its first win of the football season Saturday night when it hosts the Alaska Wild at the Sears Centre.

The Slaughter has dropped its first three cames of the Indoor Football League season by a combined 8 points, which includes Sunday's 27-26 loss to the Bloomington Extreme.

Head coach Steve "Mongo" McMichael will start newly acquired quarterback Randy Hutchison, who passed for 195 yards on Sunday, completing 27 of 37 attempts with 3 TD passes.

This week the Slaughter also signed quarterback Tavares Woodley, who played last season at Marion, and former Ohio State wide receiver Albert Dukes.
