WR Albert Dukes (official thread)

Hey Mili - No, I couldn't do better. But I don't make over a million dollars to run the best college football program in the country. I didn't make the bold statement that Tressel made at that Michigan State basketball game. The perception of the program is terrible, but don't think for a second that Geiger and Tressel don't deserve some of blame for this.

The bottom line is that the character quality of the players we've been bringing in, and the character quality of the "dirty" boosters we don't disclose to the media is bringing down this program. Perception is rooted in reality, and the reality is that there have been a lot of problems with this program lately - problems that other programs haven't had nearly as much of lately.

I'm critical of the program and the people running it because I'm an alumnus and a fan. But I'm embarrased, upset, and I want accountability for all that are to blame - from the players and coaches, to the administrators and the boosters. The rest of us don't deserve to have a program we hold so much pride in continue to breakdown.

Gotta love how certain people continue to defend JT. These are the same people that if Coop was the coach would be saying he should be hung.

I know JT isn't a baby sitter. But I also know even without the MOC situation, that things seem out of control with this team. I know though as long as he suspends the guy, he is doing fine.

I know alot of the defenders will say it happens everywhere, but is it this bad at other places? Maybe a few places, but those are the places we used to make fun of.

I always read the "he is a JT kind of recruit" because he is a good person, bla, bla, bla. Wow, I would hate for us to get a non JT type of recruit.

One of two men facing minor charges connected to the Brigham Young University rape investigation case made his initial appearance in court Tuesday.

Suspended BYU football player Antwaun Harris is charged with providing false statements to police. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 18, when he's expected to waive his right to a preliminary hearing.

Another suspended BYU player, Billy Skinner, was also scheduled to appear in court Tuesday to face a charge of dealing harmful material to a minor. But he had his initial appearance continued to January 4.

Four other former BYU players have been indicted on sexual assault and other charges in the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl during a party at a Provo apartment last summer.

Court documents from the police investigation unsealed last week show as many as nine players, all newly recruited freshmen, were at the apartment where the incident allegedly took place.

"I can assure you, you'll be proud of our young people in the classroom, in the community, and most especially," well you know the rest.

1 out of 3 isn't very good people.

Guess Dukes wasn't a "tressel-type recruit." Or maybe he was and we need to re-evaluate what a "tressel-type recruit" is.
So you thought he'd recruit 20 altar boys a year? One parking ticket and forget it at OSU huh? Stop being so naive, everyone. It's a joke if you never expect problems with football players.

The entire Buckeye nation is flying off the handle and the sky is collapsing around the program because we have an indescretion with Troy Smith? Then something comes out about Dukes and we're the dirtiest program in the nation? Please. This Dukes thing--NO REFLECTION ON THE PROGRAM. None. Think Jim Tressel walks into a recruits house and the first words out of his mouth are 'bang any middle schoolers this year?' I can't believe some of the shit I'm reading here.

Another thing: we suspend Troy Smith as soon as we figure out about... whatever the hell he actually did... and it's a university thing? What? How does punishing a kid for wrongdoing make OSU at fault here? I don't understand exactly how we're as bad as some of these universities who accept guys like Willie Willams who they KNOW has myriad problems with grades and the law and he's still allowed in. We boot guys like Irizarry, Hiley, etc and we're as bad as them? It's not adding up in my mind. As soon as someone figures out about any part of the staff or administration covering things up, turning their backs on indescretion, or anything else, then I'll be ready to stop defending my program.

At the least--let's get more details before we blow the program up.

I sent an e-mail to a Palm Beach Post reporter that I had corresponded with about Da'Juan Morgan earlier in the year.

Here is what he had to say about Dukes

The Post ran a story in today's local news section about Dukes, who
was arrested Tuesday after returning to Palm Beach County for the
holidays. He's charged with lewd and lascivious battery on a 13-year-old
girl. He's accused of forcing the girl to perform sexual acts in June
and July. He was released from jail after posting a $2,000 bond. That's
all the details I have at this time.

Update from Mr Ed on the OZone:

By Mr. Ed on 16:25:01 12/23/04

...so here is what we know down here in San Antonio.

1) According to an OSU spokesman, he is here with the team.

2) According to Florida Authorities, this involves an event that occured on July 4 and was filed on July 8. The alleged victim demanded that the charges be re-filed this week.

3) Dukes has cooperated with legal authorities since July, appearing whenever summoned.

That's about it.

It's not just about this incident. Has everyone forgotten the MC thing and the other players that have come out afterwards, including academic misconduct admissions from several reliable players. Has everyone forgotten all the other legal problems some other players have had, including Irizarry, Guilford, Trapasso, Joe, the late, late night situation with Holmes and Smith last year. The Reynolds choke job. The record number of personal foul penalties in the San Diego State game last year w/out one player being punished. The academic allegations about Vance, Gamble, others. Smith again this week, and other various situations that haven't come out, or been found out.

Is any of this normal? And is it too much to ask that Ohio State be a leader in character quality, on and off field conduct, rather than part of the problem, or as it currently stands, the poster child for the problem?

Are you serious? Vance and Gamble were cleared...Joe and Trepasso were alcohol related(imagine that alcohol in college??)...which reliable player came forward to support MoC that didn't claim they were misquoted or misled by ESPN and their words were twisted to fit the agenda? Izzy and Guilford?? When did EITHER of them give the slightest sign of problems before they got to OSU? Izzy messed up his first year and paid for it with his season.

Allegations...that all you keep saying. Sorry, but when allegations come out I treat them as such...ALLEGATIONS. If they prove to be true, then punish the kid according to the crime. However, your blind acceptance of every allegation is sickening to me.

One name to remember...Norma McGill. What ever came about from her allegations? That's right...jackshit.

No wonder you turned off your rep...

Do you ever listen to anything after an allegation is made? Do you stand in line at grocery stores reading tabloids and believe every word?

I can't even understand your using the Reynolds choke incident as an example of Tressel's and Geiger's character. Reynolds snapped during an instant during a heated game, and later personally apologized to Sorgi which Sorgi acccepted. What's that have to do with Tressel and Geiger? As for the SDSU personal foul penalties, that's why the officials have those funny yellow flags. Christ, next thing you'll be asking for Tressel bench players for false-start penalties...God help them for a late hit. :roll1:

Typical of what the Ohio State fan culture is nowadays. It's always someone else's fault. Blame everyone else. Tressel and Geiger can't be responsible. Defend the coaches. Defend the boosters. Defend the administration. Place all the blame on the players. If you can't blame a player, find someone else... like ESPN or Norma McGill. There's no way that any of this reflects bad on Ohio State. Everyone has it out for Ohio STate.

Has anybody thought about this? Who has it out for OSU? Why? All of this is irrational.

By the way, i turned my rep points off, so you won't have to waste your time pushing me up on red. I don't care, and never did.(it's rather silly if you ask me). I'd rather you spend time taking off the scarlet glasses and look at the situation objectively.

EDIT:
As for the SDSU personal foul penalties
,

Look at the tape Mili. Will Smith, our senior captian and leader, had back to back late hits on the QB, both blatantly late. He even stood over the QB on one. Where was he on the next play? On the field. What kind of message does that send? huh?
