WR Binjimen Victor (Birmingham Stallions)

BINJIMEN VICTOR'S 47-YARD TOUCHDOWN GAVE HIS TEAM HOPE, SPARKED OHIO STATE'S COMEBACK WIN

Binjimen Victor hasn’t found a modicum of consistency, even this season, his third in Ohio State’s program.

Zero catches in the season opener. Three catches against Rutgers. Zero catches taking on TCU. Two catches versus Tulane. Two catches on Saturday.

The lanky red-zone threat has flashed a few times in his career. He caught a 21-yard pass in his team’s 31-0 loss to Clemson in the 2016 Fiesta Bowl that lent credence to the idea of him breaking out as a sophomore. Last season, Victor caught seven touchdowns — including two against Illinois — but had only two combined catches for 17 yards in the Buckeyes’ matchups against Oklahoma, Penn State, Michigan, Wisconsin and USC.

Victor certainly wasn’t consistent against Penn State on Saturday, but it didn’t matter. All that mattered was him making the most important play of Ohio State’s season — and his collegiate career — on the team’s most crucial drive of the year, thus far.

On first down from the Penn State 47-yard line with his team trailing by 12 points midway through the fourth quarter, Victor knew Ohio State needed a touchdown — the faster, the better.

“All night, we'd been talking about someone make a play and get this ride started,” Victor said. “That's what I had to do.”

“Ben Vic started that bad boy off, that comeback, and that was one of the best plays right in front of me on the sideline there,” Meyer said. “He went and attacked the ball and then the receivers just got in defenders' ways and blocked his heart out. He made a great play and, all of a sudden, that gave the whole sideline hope.”

‘Defining Moment’ for Binjimen Victor a Sign of Things to Come

“It gave the whole sideline hope.”

Those were Urban Meyer’s words after Ohio State’s 27-26 come-from-behind win at Penn State Saturday night. He was talking about Binjimen Victor’s 47-yard touchdown reception with 6:42 remaining in the game.

The score didn’t give the Buckeyes the lead, but it gave the a fighting chance, and that’s all Victor was trying to do.

“I just had to make a play for the team,” Victor said in a matter-of-fact tone afterward. “I just felt like I had to put it on my back.”

In the box score, the 47-yarder probably seems simple, but it was anything but. Dwayne Haskins’ pass was behind Victor, who had to go up and pull the ball down while sandwiched between defenders. He then had to shake a couple of tackles before heading upfield and following his blockers.

As Meyer said, the score gave the Buckeyes hope. It did much more than that, however, as the hope turned to determination, which then gave way to results.

After the game, Meyer was squeezed into the shoe closet that is the Penn State visiting media room. There were a number of questions to answer, not the least of which was the Buckeyes’ comeback when down 12 points in the fourth quarter.

Meyer addressed all of the questions, but began by giving credit where he thought it was due.

“Well, Ben Vic started that bad boy off, that comeback,” he said. “That was one of the best plays, right in front of me on the sidelines there. He went and attacked the ball and then the receivers got in the defenders’ way.”

And when asked if it was the biggest play of Victor’s career, Meyer didn’t hesitate.

“It’s the biggest play of anybody’s career,” he said smiling.

I’ve watched that TD about 37 times so far.

No shit. Definitely more than 30 with lots of micro-watching. Pausing at the catch. Rewinding a bit. Watching Dwayne deliver it all the way through the end zone. Back and forth.

That was so damn thrilling.
With you. Victor was 1 dimensional to me until that catch. That grab was amazing on its own. Then he got outside and cut it back and outran everybody. Impressed is an understatement

Look where Rashod Berry is when Ben catches the ball. Then see where he is as Ben is running down the field.

Everything about this play is amazing and should be used as learning tape for any player who needs to know the effort that's expected to win at a high level. Without him busting his ass, that play is stopped.

I was going to post that the other day. What a hustle play...that right there speaks to the culture of the program.
