The Philadelphia Eagles made the previously reported Josh McCown signing official on Saturday evening. In a corresponding roster move, the team released wide receiver Braxton Miller.

The Eagles originally signed Miller to their practice squad early in the 2018 regular season. They never called him up to the 53-man roster, though, despite suffering multiple wide receiver injuries.

Miller really failed to stand out during the Eagles’ spring and summer practices. He was easily the team’s most invisible receiver so it’s not surprising that the former Ohio State quarterback is now getting cut.

Miller was especially expendable since pass catchers like Greg Ward and Marken Michel have stepped up in training camp practices and preseason games. Both players are potentially pushing for a fifth (or sixth?) receiver spot, though Mack Hollins might be the favorite for that role in part due to his special teams ability.

The Eagles’ roster is now full again at the 90-player offseason limit.

Hope he can stick. May be his last shot. Always seemed to me more like a RB than a WR if he was going to switch from being a QB.

I have to imagine there were ways the browns wanted to use Duke Johnson - well the first 8 weeks of the season, let's say - and now you have your eggs in the dontrell Hilliard talent and the Kareem Hunt good behavior basket. Given kitchens propensity to put a lot of RB's on the field last year, the idea of him as a hybrid may not be far off.

Braxton is one of my all time favorites but his lack of physicality from the slot and aversion of taking any contact has made his transition from QB to WR exceptionally hard.

I don’t blame him.....I wouldn’t want to put my body in those positions either. But the separating factor between a guy like Edelman or Antwan Randle El was their fearlessness over the middle (using them because they made switch from QB to WR).

Braxton has never liked contact and it shows in how he plays IMO.

The frustrating thing is while his 40 time was a bit slower than expected at 4.51, his shuttle numbers (which are high indicator of slot WR success) were off the charts. He obviously has the physical ability....it’s just the slot receiver mentality that’s missing.
