WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion)

SKULL SESSION: BRAXTON MILLER COMFORTABLE AS A RECEIVER, BILLY PRICE REBOUNDS, AND MICHAEL JORDAN TAKES SNAPS AT CENTER

BRAXTON MILLER LOOKING LIKE A RECEIVER.
After two seasons playing professionally at the highest level, Braxton Miller may have finally figured out how to play his position.

From HoustonChronicle.com:

Catching passes in stride on a sun-splashed morning, everything is clicking for Braxton Miller.

His route-running is textbook. His pass-catching fundamentals are on point. And Miller no longer looks out of place or uncomfortable lined up outside the hash marks as a wide receiver.

...

“It wasn’t easy, to be honest with you,” Miller said following a training camp practice. “I dug deep. I learned from the guys around me. Watching DeAndre helped me improve my game a lot.

“I want to be on top of my game. I’m having fun. I feel great. I know what I’m doing. I’m not thinking too much. I’m getting the job done.”

I mean this without even a bit of sarcasm – it's absolutely incredible that Miller was drafted in the third round and has been able to survive in the NFL for two seasons while clearly not knowing how to play the position he's being paid millions of dollars to play. It speaks volumes to how purely athletic he is.

I'll never forget his first game playing receiver in college. I remarked multiple times that he looked lost, wasn't running crisp routes and was a useless blocker – all of which made sense for a guy who's played receiver for like three months.

But then he caught the first pass thrown to him, diving and cradling it under his body, then two quarters later he torched a helpless safety and somehow avoided the tackle and stayed in bounds for a touchdown.

If that's the product of Miller having no idea how to play receiver, it's absolutely worth keeping him on an NFL roster for a few years until he figures it out.

And when he does...

5 roster bubble Texans who need to impress against the Chiefs

By: Cole Thompson | 17 hours ago

Football season is in full swing and with it, rosters will be diminishing daily. As the Houston Texans prepare for their first test of the 2018 season, coach Bill O’Brien will be forced week by week to slowly chop the roster from 90 players to the NFL standard of 53.

Some players are safe no matter how they perform against the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday night. Most starters will only see a drive or two at the most to give them a feel of the game. After that, it will come down to the players sitting on the bubble to make an impact early or find themselves hitting the free agent market as soon as tomorrow morning.

Anyone can make or break their overall chances by one solid play. With that in mind, here are five roster bubble players who will need a big performance come Thursday evening.

1. WR BRAXTON MILLER

Let’s get the big name out of the way now before diving into the smaller name prospects. Entering his third season, Miller hasn’t produced the way many believed he would for a third round selection. The Ohio State quarterback turned wide receiver has only managed to collect under 400 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns in the past two seasons. Still, reports coming out of The Greenbriar show Miller finally progressing with his routes and his catching ability in the open field.

Practice is one thing but putting it into live events will make or break Miller’s chances to be a legitimate offensive weapon for the Texans offense this season. With the fourth-round selection, Keke Coutee sidelined with a hamstring injury, Miller can separate himself from the pack and become the team’s primary option in the slot. If he struggled to find separation and continues to finish routes, he could be one of the early players to leave training camp before it’s over.

I love Braxton as much as the next guy, but his agility hasn't translated to the NFL the way scouts hoped. He crushed his 3 cone drill (one of the best ever behind Brandon Cooks), which translated to huge upside in the slot. The problem is he isn't much of a downfield threat or seen as a great hands guy. Almost all teams across the board have played him man, no help, and Braxton has struggled to beat his defender. The Texans lost hope on him becoming a slot guy who had the athleticism to burn the nickel corner in man coverage. In fairness to Braxton, he really hasn't gotten an opportunity to consistently get snaps with a good QB. Watson was hurt much of last year, he was banged up week to week, and the previous season was a mess at QB for Texans.

I'd love to see him latch on with a team like NE, GB, etc. where the QB is capable of making progressions and allow Braxton time to set his routes up.

If he finds the right situation, I think there is still hope for him. Going to the wrong team here, could push him out of the league in the next 12 months though.

Braxton Miller's stay on Eagles' practice squad likely to be a short one

Braxton Miller is on the Eagles’ practice squad.

He most likely won't be for long.

This is a typical Howie Roseman move. Bring in a kid with tons of upside who didn't pan out in his previous NFL stop, sign him to the practice squad, let the coaches take a good look at him for a few weeks, then either move on to the next guy or promote him to the 53-man roster.

The Eagles on Monday morning formally announced what was revealed over the weekend, that they had added the former two-time Big Ten Player of the Year to their practice squad.

Miller, who converted from quarterback to receiver his last year at Ohio State, was released last month after two largely disappointing seasons with the Texans.

The Eagles need help at receiver. They need some firepower.

Maybe Miller isn’t the answer, but he said one of the reasons he came here was because of a sense that of all the teams he spoke with, the Eagles offered the best chance at a quick jump to the 53-man roster.

“It came down to what’s the best opportunity for me,” Miller said after practice Monday. “Start here and work my way up. Compete and show what I can do.”

Miller is an intriguing prospect and definitely worth taking a look.

He’s 6-foot-1, 205 pounds, he can run, he can catch, he can throw. It just remains to be seen if he can do those things on the NFL level.

“I love this type of scheme, everybody making plays,” he said. “Just trying to show them I’m on top of my game. Keep working hard and fitting in with the guys who are already here. Anything the coaches want me to do, I’ll do it.”

This is really random, but I was just watching the 2013 Illinois game again and didn't remember his throwing motion being so...uncomfortable during the season. In the first half he's side arming a lot of throws and not following through. Almost as though his arm is bothering him and not letting him move it properly.

The shoulder injury was against Clemson though, correct? Just wondering if maybe the issues started earlier and the last straw was the Orange Bowl.
