WR Chris Olave (1st Team All B1G, 1st Team All-American, New Orleans Saints)

The third Buckeye in Kiper’s top 25 is receiver Chris Olave at No. 20. There are five other receivers listed ahead of Olave, who caught 49 passes for 849 yards and 12 touchdowns last year. Olave could be Ohio State’s first first-round receiver since Anthony Gonzalez (No. 32) and Ted Ginn (No. 9) in 2007.

“With K.J. Hill, Binjimen Victor and Austin Mack all off to the NFL, it’s the Olave show for the Buckeyes in 2020. He caught 49 passes for 849 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. He tracks the deep ball well and made a few spectacular plays. He’s going to have a big year while catching passes from Justin Fields.”

CHRIS OLAVE VS. MICHIGAN CORNERBACK AMBRY THOMAS
One could probably make an argument for Shaun Wade vs. Nico Collins as being the major storyline here, but no one knows what to expect under center for Jim Harbaugh. Whether it be Joe Milton or Dylan McCaffrey, the chosen starter will be one of the many inexperienced quarterbacks the Buckeyes will face in 2020.

Senior cornerback Lavert Hill was expected to be the man in the Michigan secondary in 2019. Hill ultimately went undrafted after junior Ambry Thomas outplayed him in the defensive backfield. Ohio State has torched the Michigan secondary over the last two seasons, and Chris Olave has been responsible for three of the ten touchdowns through the air. The Cali native will look to keep that trend going this year in Columbus.

Don Brown has shown zero ability to scheme for what Ryan Day brings to the table. Dwayne Haskins and the crossing patterns destroyed the Wolverines in 2018 and then it was Justin Fields and J.K. Dobbins last year in Ann Arbor. Even with the loss of three major contributors at wideout, Brian Hartline has a deep arsenal of talent to put on display. Olave will be one of the best in the country, and Ambry Thomas will be faced with a tall task.

Had a few drinks and watched the last couple Games...I fully expect a giant 2020 from Olave, but damn. The guy was borne to kill a wolverine. It's like we had him in a leash and then just let him attack Harbaugh.
Yeah no kidding... when you watch THE GAME there's a few who stand out out of so many.

It's really just Troy and Olave to me (Maybe Gonzo). They just seem to go to just another level when they play that TUN.

That's probably my list for my lifetime, Troy was the only one I was going to say ranks there from my memory, though Gonzo had some incredible moments. Crazy thing is that Butter has at least one more year to cement that legacy, though I suspect ttun will focus on him and open the door to someone like Garrett Wilson shredding them instead.

Which is why when Chris shreds them this season it'll cement his wolverine killer status even more!

3rd team All-B1G was a serious slap in the face for Olave in 2019. Deserved much better.
Will receive much better in 2020.

He'll be 1st-Team All-B1G, and possibly All-American.

Maybe he did deserve better; however, it all comes down to the stats (and you know they like to spread the awards around to as many teams as possible):

Tyler Johnson, Minnie: 86 receptions, 1318 yards
Rashod Bateman, Minnie: 60 receptions, 1219 yards

Whop Philyor, IU: 70 receptions, 1002 yards
K. J. Hamler, Kool Aid Cult: 56 receptions, 607 yards

Chris Olave: 49 receptions, 849 yards
David Bell, Purdue: 85 receptions, 1036 yards

Re: Will receive much better in 2020.

Just sayin': It may be hard for Olave to get on the 1st team in the B1G in 2020, if Ohio State spreads the ball around on offense. Anyway the most important stat in college football is Ws, not how many makes an all B1G team.....

The best receiver in the B1G is probably Rondale Moore (who was injured in 2019) but had 114 receptions, 1258 yards his Freshman year (2018). Also, Bateman, Philyor, and Bell will return to their teams in 2020.

11. CHRIS OLAVE, WR (676 SNAPS)
Ohio State doesn’t have as much experience at wide receiver as it did last year, when K.J. Hill, Austin Mack and Binjimen Victor were all fifth-year seniors who had already been starters for multiple years, but the Buckeyes do potentially have one of the nation's best wide receivers in Olave, who has proven himself as a top playmaker and reliable target for the offense going into his third year in Columbus.

After breaking into the rotation during the second half of his freshman year, in which he played 169 total snaps, Olave played 507 offensive snaps in 2019 – the second-most among all receivers, behind Hill – when he caught 49 passes and led the Buckeyes with 849 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s the only returning Ohio State wide receiver who has ever started a game for the Buckeyes, and he’ll be expected to step up into a leadership role for his unit this season as a result.

Hartline: ‘Chris (Olave) is a coach’s dream’

upload_2020-6-17_15-49-55.png

He is coming off a strong season and even more is expected out of Ohio State junior wide receiver Chris Olave this year. In 2019, the 6-foot-1, 188-pound Olave had 49 receptions, 849 receiving yards, averaged 17.3 yards per catch and hauled in 12 touchdowns. He led the team in the latter four categories and was second to K.J. Hill in receptions.

Wide receiver coach Brian Hartline gushed about Olave on a conference call with reporters.

“Chris is a coach’s dream,” Hartline said. “At the end of the day, I’m not sure if anybody cares as much as him as far as how he cares about himself, his brothers, his teammates. He’s a great guy to coach and I’m very blessed by it.

“And now, not that he wasn’t working very hard already, he has the chance to enhance himself and be that much better. He is very motivated to be the best player in the country and he goes at it from that perspective. He is our most experienced wide receiver by far and we’re expecting big things out of him. And he’s expecting big things out of himself."
