Chris Olave – 40%
In a typical draft, Chris Olave would not only be a probable first-round selection but would have a real shot at being selected in the top half of the round. However, after an incredibly impressive 2020 receiving class, the 2021 WR group is somehow even better. Jamar Chase, DeVonta Smith, and Jaylen Waddle are all ahead of Olave… and that’s just the players at SEC. In total, there are about 5-6 prospects above Olave at the moment.

Olave is an absolute stud, and with Ben Victor and K.J. Hill both gone, he’s the clear number one option and one of the only non-freshman options alongside Garret Willson. Despite the talent at wide receiver in this class, if he puts up the video games numbers he’s capable of, he’ll force teams in the mid-to-late first to give him a look.

He'll be 1st-Team All-B1G, and possibly All-American.

Maybe he did deserve better; however, it all comes down to the stats (and you know they like to spread the awards around to as many teams as possible):

Tyler Johnson, Minnie: 86 receptions, 1318 yards
Rashod Bateman, Minnie: 60 receptions, 1219 yards

Whop Philyor, IU: 70 receptions, 1002 yards
K. J. Hamler, Kool Aid Cult: 56 receptions, 607 yards

Chris Olave: 49 receptions, 849 yards
David Bell, Purdue: 85 receptions, 1036 yards

Re: Will receive much better in 2020.

Just sayin': It may be hard for Olave to get on the 1st team in the B1G in 2020, if Ohio State spreads the ball around on offense. Anyway the most important stat in college football is Ws, not how many makes an all B1G team.....

The best receiver in the B1G is probably Rondale Moore (who was injured in 2019) but had 114 receptions, 1258 yards his Freshman year (2018). Also, Bateman, Philyor, and Bell will return to their teams in 2020.

Just sayin': With Rondale Moore and Rashod Bateman opting out this year, Chris Olave could very well be 1st-Team All-B1G now.

Any word on him? Concussion?

Just sayin': Due to privacy laws they are pretty hush-hush about the status of a player's injuries/illnesses. Something might be announced at one of the usual press conferences (or just leaked out); but it is entirely possible we won't know his status until they announce the "who is definitely out" and "who is a game time decision" for Penn State later this week (i.e. probably Friday).

Needless to say, if he did suffer an injury, just hope he makes a quick and full recovery.

For all the targeting calls they made on Saturday, the omission of this one is egregious

  • Leading with helmet, shoulder forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area.
Yeah, I'll say that qualified as targeting by #8. What made it even worse was after #8 hit him in the head with his shoulder, Olave's head then ricocheted off #6's helmut who was coming at Olave too. There were 2 quick (and violent) hits coming from opposite directions.

PRESSER BULLETS: RYAN DAY, HASKELL GARRETT, JOSH MYERS, GARRETT WILSON DISCUSS OHIO STATE'S SEASON-OPENING WIN AND UPCOMING PENN STATE GAME

What Rayn Day said:
  • On what Ohio State would do if Chris Olave can't play on Saturday: "We'd just move some things around just like we always do. That's where depth comes into play. We'll see how it goes as the week goes on."
What Garrett Wilson said:
  • Wilson says he thinks Chris Olave will be ready to play on Saturday. “I talked to Chris, and he seemed good.”

Yeah and he launched like hell #8 was head hunting out there launching left and righ. Also while he got a double whammy there due to bad luck i don't blame #6 at all he did everything right was just bad luck.

So on Thursday afternoon, Day predictably declined to publicly answer a question about whether or not junior wide receiver Chris Olave will suit up for the Buckeyes in their road matchup with Penn State on Saturday. However, he added some optimism, mentioning that Olave – who exited the season opener against Nebraska after a hit to the helmet – has gone through practices this week.

“We put out the availability report, so we don't get too far into that,” Day said. “But he's had a good, strong week of practice.”
