They’re inseparable.

The triumvirate of Fields, Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave makes this offense into the behemoth it has become. Fields makes every throw asked of him, and Wilson and Olave get open time after time.

Wilson joined David Boston, Terry Glenn and Cris Carter as the third Buckeye to rack up more than 100 yards in three straight games. If he can do it the next two weekends, he’d tie Carter’s mark set in 1986 for the longest streak of 100-yard receiving games. And who’s betting against him? As a first-year starter, Wilson has developed into everything the Buckeyes could have imagined when they inked him to a National Letter of Intent and brought him to Ohio from Austin, Texas. He’s Fields’ safety blanket, especially on third downs, but is also adept at finding openings down the field.

On Saturday, Wilson accounted for six receptions for 104 yards. He reeled in an eight-yard corner-of-the-end zone catch in the middle of the second quarter. Olave’s always an option whenever Fields wants to rear back and launch a deep ball, too. He caught five passes for 64 yards – including a 33-yard score – with a pair of touchdowns.

“He’s probably the best I’ve been around,” Day said during an appearance on the Buckeye Roundtable radio show last week. “In terms of his skill set downfield tracking balls … but Chris is tough. Chris plays on special teams, he blocks, he can catch balls over the middle. So when you combine those kind of attributes, he’s special.

“He’s stepped up in big moments. So he’s also clutch. So when you combine all that, yeah, he’s probably the best I’ve been around.”

When Olave heard that Day had given him such high praise, he was almost at a loss for words.

“That means a lot,” Olave said last week. “Especially coming from Coach Day. He’s been around a lot of good receivers … He’s been in the NFL a couple years. It’s definitely a blessing to hear that, coming from one of the best coaches in the country. I don’t think I’ve got words for that.”

BEST IN THE B1G. You can probably go ahead and get used to hearing this, but Ohio State has both of the Big Ten's best receivers, and it ain't particularly close.



The better question might be, when is the next time the Buckeyes won't have at least have a chance to have the two best receivers in the conference? Because the way things are shaking out on the recruiting trail...

WATCH CHRIS OLAVE CAP CAREER-DAY WITH A 41-YARD SCORING STRIKE FROM JUSTIN FIELDS

Chris Olave set a new career-high with 10 catches and matched his career-high with 139 yards today against Michigan State.

He saved his best for last, hauling in a 41-yard scoring strike from Justin Fields giving Ohio State a 45-10 lead midway through the fourth quarter.

Today's effort marks his fourth 100+ yard receiving day in five games this season and the fifth of his Buckeye career.

Just sayin': Great game, but 2 fumbles are 2 too many. He needs to hold on to the ball a little better.

2. After watching the game today it is obvious, Chris Olave is a more important (i.e. unreplaceable) piece in Ohio State's offense than a lot of us had thought. Ohio State has a great stable of backup WRs, but they aren't playing at the "Olave level" just yet.

I think there’s more here than meets the eye. Part of it too me is a reluctance on Fields part to look beyond Olave and Wilson and involve others in the passing game. You can’t catch the ball if it’s never thrown in your direction.

No disrespect to Olave, he is awesome.
