Harvey offers star attractions
Thursday, August 16, 2007From staff reports
Looking for some under-the-radar college recruits to see this fall? Go see Harvey in Painesville.

Junior wideout Chris Fields (6-1, 185) is attracting attention from nearly every major college in the country, and Red Raiders coach Devlin Culliver said, "I'm betting it'll come down to [Ohio State] and Florida."

Fields, who has been clocked at 4.42 in the 40-yard dash and has great hands, also is an outstanding center fielder and could be a prospect along the lines of current two-sport Ohio State player Devon Torrence.

i read that Chris ran two consecutive 4.35 40's at Akrons camp as a freshman, and I believe it for sure, this kid has got a first step from hell with good size 6 1" 185 frame, i can wait to see what he can do as a junior, he looks like he was the hips of a corner aswell and hes by far quick enough for corner, a great prospect guys. hell be very well known when he starts blowing up combines next summer.

Talked to someone about 3 or 4 months ago about him and he said don't be suprised if he goes the baseball route...

Nothing is set in stone by any means, but that is just what I was told...

I will have to check and see if I can find anything else out about him...

I'll do some homework on this kid as the upcoming season gets started. Harvey's quarterbacks (Mickey Mohner) dad Mike Mohner is one of the greatest High School baseball coaches in the history of Lake County while at Fairport Harding back in the 1990's. I know Mike, and will catch up with him and get his input on this kid as a baseball prospect. My initial inclination is to think of him as a football prospect, and having Culliver as a new Head Coach probably has alot to do with that. Culliver has the Youngstown-Warren background and is moving on the verge of being a real hot commodity in the college coaching ranks in the not too distant future.

Great article from Gary Housteau in the latest Ohio High on Chris (no link)

Quotes from Chris in the article

Chris Fields said:
"I wish I would be recruited to Ohio State right now because that's my number one college and that's the school that I want to go to"

"If Ohio State gives me a scholarship, no matter what, I'm going to take it, I don't care if 24 other colleges give me a scholarship. If Ohio State gives me a scholarship, then I am going to take that one. I'll be disapponted if I don't get a scholarship to Ohio State.

He loves baseball and would like a situation similar to Torrence. But if he can't have that, it appears that going to college is his overriding priority and obviously tOSU is the no.1 choice.

That's great news. It seems like its that cycle of impressionable kids too. The younger freshman, sophmores and even juniors become infatuated with Ohio State when they have all the hype around them during last years run.
