WR Corey "Philly" Brown (Official Thread)

PhillyBurbs.com: ?Wood's Brown nabs three state berths

5/15
Less than 25 minutes after winning the 200-meter dash Thursday, Brown was asked by his coach, Tom Kennedy, to anchor the Lions’ 4 x 400-meter relay. He didn’t win the race. He didn’t need to.

His first-place showings in the 100, 200 and 4 x 100 relay were enough to push O’Hara over the top at the District 12 Championship meet. The Lions totaled 117 points, far surpassing La Salle’s 85, to win the district title at Northeast High School’s Charlie Martin Stadium.
Visibly exhausted from his earlier perfomances, Brown staggered in the first half of his split in the 4 x 400. He was three strides behind Northeast’s Erick Brundige and appeared to have hit a wall. But on the final turn, Brown turned up his speed and lost at the finish line only by a desperation lean by Brundige.

It was all that kept Brown from even more gold.

“You know Corey’s going to do everything to win, even when he thinks his tank is empty,” said Tyler Gallen, the third leg of O’Hara’s 4 x 400 and a piece in the Lions’ 4 x 800 second-place puzzle. “He showed that today.”

Brown teamed with Mikal Rone, Adam Dempsey and Billy Morgan in the 4 x 100, and then with Joe Sacchetti, Gallen and Morgan in the 4 x 400. Brown also used a 30 mph wind to stake his personal-best time in the 100-meter dash. He crossed in 10.3 seconds, two-tenths better than his previous record.

Coming off a MCL tear last fall, Brown scorched the track at Districts. UF, OSU & Rutgers reportedly lead, followed by FSU, Clem, PSU, WVU & Aub.

Corey Brown - College Football Recruiting 2010 - ESPN

ESPNU 150 Watch List talent Corey Brown gave his new top ten to affiliate Web site CrimsonConfidential.com.

Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, Penn State, West Virginia, Rutgers, Pitt, Miami, Florida State and Clemson made the cut.

Brown's high school coach, Danny Algeo, said, "They're all good schools. He's not going to make a bad choice with any of them. We've always though he was a special player, and the fact that he's in the Northeast and so many schools in the South are recruiting him says something about the kid."

"We're looking for a school that cares about him as a person as much as it does a player - a school that will help him take care of business and graduate," the coach said. "That's one of the things we were looking at this morning - graduation rates."

Brown's holding 30 to 40 scholarship offers including programs not in his top ten including South Carolina, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan State, Colorado, Notre Dame and Tennessee.

Thanks cheetah, good to see you around here again. What's your take on Brown's recruitment these days, vs 16 months ago?

The kid is fast and talented. IMO, he is one of only two truly elite prospects this year in PA, with the other being the big DT Floyd. Could play RB, WR, or DB, plus he should be an excellent return man. And his stock could actually skyrocket this season since he hardly played last year. If he stays healthy, he is going to have a huge year.

Corey Brown's speed has recruiters chasing him - ESPN

It's all about speed, both on and off the football field, for Under Armour All-American athlete Corey Brown (Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara).

The 6-foot, 171-pound receiver/running back prospect, who one college recruiter described as "absolutely electric," recently added success on the track to his list of accomplishments. During his first season competing in the sport, he finished fourth in Pennsylvania in the 100-meter dash (10.92 seconds in the state meet) and third in the 200 (21.69).

The week before the state meet, Brown won the 100 at the District 12 championship with a time of 10.54 and ran away with the 200 with a 21.69. That, plus his 4x100 relay team finishing first, led Cardinal O'Hara to the district title.

"I liked running track a lot this year because it helped me gain football speed," Brown said. "That was one of the main reasons I did it. At first, I wasn't too sure about running track, but I could see myself getting faster."
His speed, playmaking skills and versatility earned Brown Under Armour All-American status.

"It's an honor to be selected," Brown said. "This game has all of the top players. ESPN being there lets you know that all of the top players will be there. I can't wait to get down there and test myself."

Many of the nation's top programs are chasing after Brown. Currently, the defending national champion Florida Gators are recruiting him the hardest, selling him on a role in their offense similar to the one played by Percy Harvin, who left Gainesville early and was a first-round pick by the NFL's Minnesota Vikings. But then, it's not surprising the Gators want Brown badly. Head coach Urban Meyer said shortly after he arrived in Gainesville that he wanted to have the "fastest team in college football." Watching Florida play last season, few would argue that the Gators are at least close to reaching that goal. Also, given his versatility, a Harvin-type role seems ideal for Brown.

"This kid is a tweener who lacks ideal size, but more than makes up for it with speed and quickness," said Tom Luginbill, ESPN Scouts Inc.'s national recruiting director. "Even though he lines up in the backfield at running back, we don't feel like that's his true home. We feel he is a slot receiver, with return specialist upside."

The Gators, along with Alabama, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, West Virginia, Ohio State, Miami (Fla.), Florida State and Clemson are his top 10. Brown has not scheduled a lot of visits, but plans to be in Gainesville for the Gators' "Friday Night Lights" Camp in July.

As good as he is on the field, Brown is smart enough to know his limitations. He's realistic about his future and plays to his strengths.

"I am a player who knows he can make plays in space doing different things," Brown said. "I know I am not an every-down back in college. I am going to make plays using my speed at slot receiver and other spots."

2010 Under Armour All-America Game to feature versatile athletes - ESPN

Corey Brown, 6-1, 185, Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara

Tom Luginbill on Brown: This kid is a tweener wide receiver-scatback who lacks ideal size but makes up for it with speed and quickness. Although he lines up in the backfield as a running back, we do not feel this is his true home. We think he is a slot receiver with return-specialist upside.

Recruiting buzz: Florida is very strong at the moment. Penn State, Georgia, Michigan, Alabama and South Carolina are other schools that have been mentioned as players in Brown's recruitment.

Tom LuginBULL is perhpas the WORST recruiting "expert" out there. Brown has said multiple times that Ohio State is on his short list of favorites...it's not like you have to do much looking to find that info.

Then again, what more would you expect from a guy who sits in a studio and gets all his info from 3rd and 4th hand reports.

Yep, same guy who weeks away from Pryor's announcement guesses either Oregon or scUM, when he had already said it was down to OSU and PSU multiple times.
Its not about getting it right. Its about getting the hits on the site. That's why these people retain the jobs.
