WR Devon Lyons (official thread)

To be honest I think this is the best move for him. I always really looked forward to seeing him (And Dukes) play for us, and they both really excited me.

However at tOSU there is just so much competition at every position, and in recent years, especially WR and DB, that even the best athletes and the hardest workers don't get a chance. He has been riddled with injuries and that certainly isn't his fault. Every starter at tOSU not only has amazing physical abilities, but works hard on and off the field, and has a certain degree of luck. It's unfortunate that Lyons didn't quite have that luck but I'm sure at WVU he will be able to succeed. They are a little short on depth at WR and he can make a name for himself there.

Once a buckeye, always a buckeye! :osu:

Of course I'm all for him doing what is in his best interest, but he will be missed. After last year's spring game I was looking for him to have a breakout season this year, but we are just too loaded at WR for him to get a chance.

I plan on keeping an eye on his career (and still wouldn't be surprised to see him have a great season before the end of his college career), and wish him the best of luck.

Could be, Ryan Mundy is his cousin and is at scUM.
Interesting nugget from earlier in the thread...

Mundy revitalized his career and made some major plays at WVU this year. It would be ironic, and refreshing, if the same came true for Devon, if these rumors come to fruition.

from the sounds of it, he seems like a good kid....hopefully he can come in and help because WR is where we need some help....

Always great to hear the JT is helping him get this done.....

I wish Devon well wherever he plays, and I know BP will keep an eye on him.

The few times I've been around him (sidelines, media day, etc), he was always very animated and personable, big smile and making others laugh.

He does a great job of this, imo... even with those who get into trouble off the field (ie Irizarry).

For how many seasons would Lyons be eligible to play at WVU after sitting out a year?

edit: Nevermind--just read the article. He would be eligible right away due to his father's medical hardship, and has one season left of eligibility.

Our Coach Tressel, if nothing else, is always for a kid doing whats best for himself. It's why he encourages all to send in the paperwork for early entry into the NFL draft, and actually encourages those projected as 1st rounders to seriously consider taking their shot. And although I doubt that he was arguing with Jenkins, Boone, Animal, Freeman, or Robo on their decisions to return, I'll guarantee that he'll help a kid like Devon get into a situation that will benfit him the most. It's why we as Buckeye fans wouldn't trade "coach" for anybody on the "planet."

Peace. And if it happens, best of luck to Devon with the Mountaineers.

Not positive, but there might be a chance of a medical redshirt as well...

So, he's essentially realeased from his scholarship effective June, and won't be with the team this upcoming season, and although it's "officially unofficial", it's in reality a done deal.
