WR Garrett Wilson (All B1G, 1st Team All American, 2022 OROY, New York Jets)

Two comments here:

1.

It's amazing how things eventually work out. Maybe Wilson will just come to Ohio State and be a star, and Baldwin will end up transfering to TCU (and basically quit football due to repeated injuries).

2.

Apparently "he's really, really good" at positions other than WR too. We could use another good CB right now, maybe Wilson could play both ways (i.e. like Chris Gamble did).....:boogie:

Haha talk about a blast from the past. I remember watching Baldwin's film before I knew who Garrett Wilson was and he just jumped off the film. Also echo that I think Wilson could play some corner but he's too valuable on offense to get him hurt.

WRs Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson
Best wide receiver duo in the country? Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson certainly are making their claim for that title through two games. The pair have combined for 464 yards receiving and three touchdowns on the year. And they have each had a contested touchdown go off their hands in the end zone, or it could be more. Justin Fields has been finding them any way he can. Olave is a deep-ball weapon and is smooth near the sideline. Wilson is a versatile threat on crossing routes and down the field. No matter where they line up, they seem to be unstoppable. And with a soft November slate of opponents, they have more opportunities to stake their claim as the best wide receiver pair in America.

FIVE WHO FLASHED: JUSTIN FIELDS, NICHOLAS PETIT-FRERE, GARRETT WILSON HELPED OHIO STATE BEAT RUTGERS

GARRETT WILSON AND CHRIS OLAVE
They’re inseparable.

The triumvirate of Fields, Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave makes this offense into the behemoth it has become. Fields makes every throw asked of him, and Wilson and Olave get open time after time.

Wilson joined David Boston, Terry Glenn and Cris Carter as the third Buckeye to rack up more than 100 yards in three straight games. If he can do it the next two weekends, he’d tie Carter’s mark set in 1986 for the longest streak of 100-yard receiving games. And who’s betting against him? As a first-year starter, Wilson has developed into everything the Buckeyes could have imagined when they inked him to a National Letter of Intent and brought him to Ohio from Austin, Texas. He’s Fields’ safety blanket, especially on third downs, but is also adept at finding openings down the field.

On Saturday, Wilson accounted for six receptions for 104 yards. He reeled in an eight-yard corner-of-the-end zone catch in the middle of the second quarter. Olave’s always an option whenever Fields wants to rear back and launch a deep ball, too. He caught five passes for 64 yards – including a 33-yard score – with a pair of touchdowns.

He's going to be great, or already is, but you really can't compare passing numbers like that from previous era's.

It's the most prolific passing era in CFB history and he has Justin Fields. He should beat guys from the 80's and 90's.

Then again those offenses only had 2 WR on the field more than likely which really increases the odds of being thrown at.

“When I watched Garrett play in high school and got to know he and his family, I could tell you that my expectations for him when he got here were about what’s going on right now,” Day said Tuesday. “I always felt like he was very, very talented and had a chance to be very special, so yeah, we kinda saw that early on with him.”

Wilson joins the likes of Cris Carter, Terry Glenn and David Boston — who was able to complete the feat twice in his Buckeye career. Carter was able to extend his streak to five games, the longest in Buckeye history.

Now sitting amongst some of Ohio State’s greats, Wilson said he is honored to be recognized at the same level as those Buckeye legends.
“Those dudes putting up those records, those are people I looked up to growing up. I wasn’t able to watch much of them play just because of my age, but seeing my name along their names, that was super special to me,” Wilson said. “Now I just gotta try to keep it going, and hopefully we can break some records

BEST IN THE B1G. You can probably go ahead and get used to hearing this, but Ohio State has both of the Big Ten's best receivers, and it ain't particularly close.

The better question might be, when is the next time the Buckeyes won't have at least have a chance to have the two best receivers in the conference? Because the way things are shaking out on the recruiting trail...

Ohio State wide receiver's dad speaks out on not being able to see son during the pandemic

To say Kenneth Wilson is proud of his son, an Ohio State wide receiver, is an understatement.

"Since he was a young kid, I could tell there was something special about Garrett," said Kenneth Wilson.

But it's not all about football, said Garrett Wilson's father. He says he taught his son how to be a good young man.

"One thing I like about him is he's growing into all of it. He's becoming the person and the athlete I thought he could be. He's a wonderful person and young man," said Wilson.

Kenneth says since the beginning of the season he knew the year would be a challenge. He's in the healthcare industry and wasn't sure there would be any games at all.

But he's glad Garrett gets to show off his talents, even though this holiday season, number five won't be around.

"He wasn't home for Thanksgiving and no, he won't be home for Christmas and those are all very difficult things. But we understand this is his time, his opportunity, and we don't want to let anything get in the way of that. And he doesn't either, " Wilson said.

So, Garrett, like the other OSU players are staying socially distanced from their family. And as a dad, Wilson says it's hard not to be able to wrap your arms around the person you love.

"He's not been around his family because he really wants to maintain the distance that Coach Day has asked him to maintain," said Wilson. "We're happy with that, but despite the fact, I'd love to give him a hug and a kiss just to say, 'I'm your daddy... I love you.'"
