Middlletown's Jalin Marshall (7) catches a pass and runs for a 74 yard touchdown during fhe first half.

Middletown (6-0, 3-0) opened the scoring on the game's second play, when quarterback Geovanne McKnight hit Jalin Marshall on a 15-yard crossing pattern. Marshall turned the short route into a long score when he reversed field and beat the Sycamore secondary to the sideline for a 75-yard touchdown.

Marshall, who caught the Middies' first touchdown, threw for their second. He found William Peters for a 13-yard score just before halftime to extend his team?s advantage to 17-6.

"We don't ever expect touchdowns, but we do know he can run it, catch it, and throw it," Krause said of Marshall. "He?s a talented player."

The Middies (7-0, 4-0 GMC) opened the second half as Zach Edwards recovered an onside kick at the Mason 37-yard line. Two plays later, Jalin Marshall went 37 yards to the end zone, and Middletown had its first lead since the game's opening drive.

The defense forced the Comets to punt on their next possession and on Middletown?s fourth play, Marshall went 7 yards to the end zone for his second touchdown of the game.

"We just needed to come together," said Marshall, who finished the game with 18 carries for 240 yards and four touchdowns. He also completed 9-of-11 passes 112 yards and two more touchdowns.

"I can't take any credit," he said. "The O-line did a great job blocking. Everybody did what they were supposed to. This was a huge win for us."

Free Scout - Sophomore Marshall Impressing Early

By Bill Greene
Ohio recruiting analyst
Posted Oct 14, 2010

It's not too early to try to identify the top sophomore prospects in Ohio for 2013, and several good ones have been turning heads with stellar play. One of the more impressive athletes is Middletown quarterback Jalin Marshall. Marshall is off to a great start, helping lead his team to seven straight wins. Bill Greene has the latest on Marshall.

"Florida has already told us they're going to recruit him, and we work closely with (assistant coach) D.J. Durkin," Krause stated. "Florida watched his film and immediately put him on their recruiting list. Ohio State has talked to us about him, and Coach (Jim) Tressel likes him very much. Other schools are starting to get in touch with us, and there are really too many to mention, to be honest. He's going to be recruited by everyone."

Middies dominate Indians

Middletown scored on each of its first five possessions to take a 31-0 lead at halftime.

The only blemish for the Middies offense in the first half was an interception by Fairfield?s James Turner in the end zone.

"Jalin knows," Krause said of sophomore quarterback Jalin Marshall. "He's a young guy trying to make a play there. It's hard to fault him, but he knows better."

Marshall completed 7-of-12 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown, a 15-yard pass to William Peters for the Middies first score of the game.

Marshall also ran the ball 13 times for 86 yards and two scores, one a 51-yarder that ended Middletown?s first-half scoring.

What position is he projected to play in college? I can't help but think Spencer Ware when I read about what this kid does on the field...

Read the article by Bill Green above...his coach thinks he is a dual-threat QB. A little early to try to project a '13 kid so I would go by what his coach, who sees him in practice everyday, has to say...

Middletown gets past East to remain unbeaten

Sophomore quarterback Jalin Marshall rushed for 308 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Middies to the win. He had touchdown runs of 64, 11 and 82 yards.

"I just had to keep following my blockers," said Marshall, who also completed 4-of-9 passes for 47 yards and a touchdown. "I think we overlooked them a little bit, but we stepped up to the challenge when we needed to."

Middletown QB Jalin Marshall breaks through the Lakota West defense for a big gain in the first half of their game at Firebird Field Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010.

By Skip Weaver, Staff Writer Updated 8:18 AM Thursday, October 28, 2010

MIDDLETOWN - Middletown sophomore Jalin Marshall rushed for 308 yards against Lakota East last Friday night.

It was a remarkable performance, but it still fell well short of a school record rushing mark in a single game.

That mark belongs to Jeff Cothran, who ran for 435 yards in a game against Fairfield in 1990.

Still, Marshall's Week 9 effort put him over the 1,000-yard mark for the season at 1,279 yards, making him the first quarterback to rush for more than 1,000 yards in school history.

Marshall is 269 yards short of breaking the single-season rushing record set by Doug Lewis (1,547 yards) in 1986.

Injury turns into game-changer for Middies

That's when Marshall took over. After a 29-yard run by Zach Edwards, Marshall ran for 7, -2, 5 and 13 yards to get the ball down to Princeton's 15. He then connected with Edwards on a slant for a 15-yard touchdown. The Middies were back in front to stay.

Marshall rushed 18 times for 126 yards and two touchdowns. He also completed 7-of-16 passes for 62 yards and two scores. Both TD passes went to Edwards, who had six catches for 30 yards.

Middies set to face OSU recruit in playoff opener

The Middies have a high-powered offense of their own, one that averaged 41.3 points per game during the regular season. Jalin Marshall is the key to that unit. The sophomore rushed for 1,405 yards and 17 TDs, while also passing for 659 yards and 12 more scores.

"They have a quarterback who's just special," Wayne coach Jay Minton said. "A lot of people have said he's a young Braxton Miller. He's slippery, he can throw it, and he can make things happen whenever he touches the ball."

Middie quarterback Marshall feeds off his team's success

By Skip Weaver, Staff Writer 12:11 AM Thursday, November 4, 2010

MIDDLETOWN - The first time Jalin Marshall touched the ball as a varsity football player, he ran 56 yards for a touchdown.

That play came a year ago in the Middletown High School football team's season-opening 48-6 win over Aiken at Barnitz Stadium.

"I told him not to worry about what the defender does," Middletown coach Jason Krause said of that play. "I told him 'just pull the ball to you and run. I want to see what you can do.' He showed me."

Marshall has been showing his teammates, coaches, Middie fans, opposing teams and anyone else that has been watching what he can do this entire season.

The 15-year-old sophomore quarterback has completed 51 of 101 passes for 659 yards and 12 touchdowns. He's also rushed 159 times for 1,405 yards and 17 touchdowns. He even has four receptions for 107 yards and two more scores.

Continued...

Marshall has been getting plenty of attention from colleges. He already has a scholarship offer from the University of Cincinnati. Ohio State, Florida, Tennessee and Alabama are among some of the schools that have expressed an early interest.

No. 8 Wayne (7-3) at No. 1 Middletown (10-0)

Key players

Wayne: Turning his attention more to passing, QB and Ohio State recruit Braxton Miller threw for 1,370 yards and 9 TDs in the regular season while rushing for 419 yards.

Middletown: Sophomore QB Jalin Marshall has been called a "young Braxton Miller" by some, and he has backed it up with 1,405 rushing yards, 659 passing yards and 29 combined TDs.
