WR K.J. Hill (Official Thread)

Arkansas fans saying he's coming to Ohio State because he couldn't get in academically to SEC schools. :slappy:

It would take a southern education to actually believe that to be true :rofl::rofl:

But welcome aboard KJ! Always awesome to land a big recruit out of the south and really I think adding one more true WR to Stump was big for this class.

A booster gave money to Hill's stepfather. Seems to have caused big problems at his school.

From the link...

North Little Rock High School football staff member gave a $600 check from an outside booster organization to the stepfather of highly recruited wide receiver K.J. Hill in 2013 that led to a forfeiture of a boys basketball state championship, documents obtained Friday by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette show.

The check was made out to Montez Peterson, Hill’s stepfather, and signed by a member of the NLR Athletic Foundation, a private booster group that has purchased equipment for the football team.

The check was dated Feb. 7, 2013, and according to a handwritten letter signed by Peterson, North Little Rock head football coach Brad Bolding gave him the check that month — prior to Hill’s enrollment at North Little Rock High School. Cont.

Hill's high school coach apparently has been fired because of supposed improper benefits. Just hit th news today. Some suggesting that the coach was attempting to steer kids to schools hoping to land a job. There are those in Arkansas thst believe that's the reason he did not end up at Arky. I'm not saying that's true, but that is the rumor being passed around today. What IS true is that the coach, who was winning a lot, was let go. That just hit the news headlines today.

Isn't Arkansas one of the schools most known for hiring a HS Coach for just that purpose? I seem to recall a QB and WR that ended up transferring to USC after their HS Coach left Arkansas' staff.

We actually have lost some juco players to the big 12 because the SEC requires an extra math class. Courtney Gardner to Oklahoma comes to mind.

Not sure what that has to do with KJ or the big 10 though.

There was a JUCO from Georgia, I want to say Grant (LB), that Ohio State signed partially because of the math class. It's a transfer thing only though, so it has nothing to do with freshman admissions. I have no idea what the SEC' thing is with the math class...

Little bit different. We hired Malzahn to try to solidify their commitments. In this case he's the one leveraging the kid to try to get a job.

Idk if his parents receiving money would even effect him in college but the whole situation after he decommitted was strange

I assume OSU was aware of the situation and probably have their complaince department talk them a little more then the average recruit but I'm not sure if it'll affect his eligibilty at all.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong but the impression I got from posts was that Arkansas fans were insinuating that he didn't go there because Arkansas wouldn't hire his coach (something they did when Petrino was around) ... as if Ohio State was going to offer him a job?

I don't think it affects eligibility (this seems to be more and more common), but it's definitely disconcerting and something to keep an eye on imo. I don't want to be hearing about any new churches =/ So far the worst, most evil thing Ohio State has been pegged for is players selling their personal property and that was bad enough losing Tressel, postseason bans that would've involved a NC Game against a weak Notre Dame, scholarship reductions, vacated wins, and all the negative press.

I doubt this has anything to do with wrongdoing at OSU, but I agree with Hogfan that the stink on this is thst the coach is using his top players to attempt to get a coaching position. That's a rumor, I dont know if that is true.

The reasons the coach got let go from the HS had nothing to do with this rumor, so I see nothing but BS here. Look at the paper and you will see the reasons listed.
