Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer told Terry McLaurin he didn?t know too much about the Cathedral senior receiver until he attended a Buckeyes camp on June 9.

?After that, he told me I was one of the fastest guys he?s ever seen, so that was a really big compliment,? said McLaurin, who has been clocked at 4.43 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

But Meyer gave McLaurin some homework to earn an offer.

?He wanted me to work on getting in and out of my cuts smoother and quicker,? McLaurin said. ?It was tough from a maturity standpoint because I thought I had done well enough at the camp to earn an offer. I internalized that I and got to work the next day. His goal for me was to catch 200 passes a day and run routes.?

McLaurin met that challenge and was offered after a second Buckeyes camp visit on Friday. Sunday night, McLaurin accepted.

?The coaches were impressed how I took their coaching points and used it to better myself,? McLaurin said.

The 6-foot, 175-pound had narrowed his choices to Ohio State, Purdue and Missouri.

?The tradition, the academic excellence and the drive to be great not only on the field but off,? McLaurin said. ?Playing for coach Meyer is a heck of an opportunity. Knowing that he is a champion (two national titles at Florida) was appealing before I even talked to him.?

McLaurin was then sold on Meyer?s straight-forward approach. McLaurin said he feels he is good fit for the Buckeyes? spread offense. McLaurin said knowing Meyer coached Percy Harvin (now with the Seattle Seahawks) at Florida and several other receivers now in the NFL.

?But especially Harvin because I think our games are similar,? said McLaurin, adding coach Meyer talked about using him as a slot receiver.

McLaurin had 33 catches for 820 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, helping the Irish win the Class 4A state title.

Finally watched his film. Tremendous top end speed and I am guessing UFM wanted to see him catch the ball away from his body when he got back to camp...because otherwise, he has good hands. I don't see him playing the pivot as he is pretty stiff in and out of his breaks...not really a "make you miss" guy. However, he is a one cut and hit the seam guy, so I could see him getting an occasional end around. However, I do think he can be a true vertical threat for us and we don't have one in this class yet, so he is a really nice addition. His top end speed should keep defenses honest over the top at the very least.

I agree, his film reminds me a little of philly browns HS film and I could see him being in the same role of catching the ball in the outside in space and moving the chains, and if a tackle is missed he could go for 20-30 extra yards. I just moved to indy and his HS is down the street from me, can't wait to see him play in person

Plus Cathedral is the big time program in IN and plays good competition right? Not too familiar, so correct me if I am wrong...but if so, it is always a plus to have guys playing great competition and winning championships at a high level.
