I don't really care about what people's opinions are on unions but I am going to say that this thing needs settled fast of TV is going to be hurting when it's over. Already 24 has been postponed, The Office has said it only has 2 or 3 episodes left, all the talk shows are in reruns. The actors and producers are now jumping in. Also the actors contracts are supposed to be up soon also. It is even going to effect the crappy reality TV soon enough. The good news is that sports won't be affected so it looks like DirecTv is going to get more of my money subscribing to the higher sports teir packages.

I think it's great. Hopefully the producers bring in some "scab" writers and somebody new actually comes up with an original fucking idea.

Regular television just plain sucks! :(
Thank goodness we're not Notre Sham fans!

What's the difference between regular TV and non-regular TV?

Sorry about that the producers and actors are not crossing the lines either. Their contracts are all up by the end of '08. I do agree on getting some more orginal ideas out there but that is a network issue and not wanting to take a chance on something new. Like with Hero's, Lost, 24, Soprano's it took time to get a network to take these shows then what happens someone else comes in with something that sounds the same and rips it off. Just ask NBC this season, Bionic Woman, Journeyman etc they are bombing and probably going to get pulled once this hits hard.

Most of the stuff I have seen said we will see more reality tv if this thing drags out real long, so how would it effect it if there is no "writing" on these shows.

I have to agree with Mr. Katt here.

A new idea or 3 would do wonders for TV. Another stupid reality show or a very unrealistic cop show where the local police department has a better lab than the friggin FBI does at Quantico or another stupid lawyer show where the criminal admits to the crime on the stand when that almost never happens is killing TV.

There is some "writing" in these reality shows. It kind of goes back to Trump's show when that chick, who was the total bitch was there something clicked. (How can we get these people in more confrontations on TV so people will entertained by their bad behavior.) They are now looking for certain personalitites here, see the first Survivor's cast; who is the leader; who is the bitch; who is the good guy; who is the quite mouse that just skates by. This is where the writing comes in. If anybody watched Gene Simmons' show the most reason season know what I am talking about when I say "reality writing". Another example is that Kid Nation show, not to pick on kids but I watched the first episode and when the boy broke down in tears it just felt fake. I for see more of the "talent" competition show coming out of this. Crap like "Clash of the Choirs", yes there is a show that was talked about all morning yesterday in Cincinnati that is this show.
So to get back on point there is some writing in these shows, it is more situational writing not here is this line and this joke but how can we get x reaction that people will talk about and hopefully get our sponsors some more business so we can charge them more for ad time.
As I have stated before the actors will be next in line along with the producers because their contracts are up in 08. So before too long they will be saying that we want what the writers get so we will show our support to them. This is why I have doubt that we will get "new" writers with fresh ideas into the mix, anytime soon.

The pending strike sucks, but damn, these writers should be getting paid for Internet sales (and all the other stuff they are pissed about). I do agree that the majority of network TV shows are crap; I personally like The Office, Lost, House, and Pushing Daisies. I much prefer the HBO and Showtime programs. It's no surprise that the studios aren't making any deals, they love reality programming because they are cheap and easy to make, and the majority of the US citizens enjoy crappy reality shows. I lost nearly all faith in network TV when Arrested Development was cancelled. That was the telling sign that the American television viewing audience is composed mostly of idiot reality feins.

Pay the writers what the deserve!
