WStripes and Mass JG Speculation (Split)

I am not discounting WStripes by any means, but he has called Jarrett, Sanchez and Davis, right (anybody else)? Well, this has been discussed before, but Sanchez had been a USC lock since birth, Davis never wanted to go to tOSU and Jarret actually was a silent commit to tOSU late in the process... so he kind of was wrong about him... but Jarrett jumped ship when Lyons came on board, so WStripes lucked out on that call. If none of this is correct, then let me know... I am just saying that everybody on here treats WStripes like some know-all recruiting god and bow down to him whenever he comments on a recruit and USC ("Oh he said it so it must be true"... "WStripes is never wrong, he has a history of calling kids to USC"...etc, you get my point)

Anyways, what I am trying to say is that JG himself said that the Petey visit didn't put the Trojans on top, and there is still a visit from our staff on the way tonight. Something tells me he isn't too confident about the possability of playing at all his FR yr at USC because Petey badmouthed a player and his health status, rather than the great chance he has at starting his FR yr as a Buckeye.

This thread officialy sucks

IMO these threads are getting out of hand.
Why can we not just post if we have something "informative" to add to the original intent of the Jason Gwaltney thread. If you want to argue/question with WStripes, bash what other schools are doing in their respective recruitments, or speculate amongst each other, why can we not use the private message feature or start a new thread?

let me put it this way(without giving away too much)..IF Gwaltney is really a USC lock and has told Petey he's coming--then he is not an honorable guy(read into that what you will) and certainly not the type of player that we want coming to tOSU--

But that's a big "if"........

Why not keep it positive and focused on Jason?

USC has a very strong program and Jason would do well there in time, but he wouldn't be starting for awhile as a Trojan, no matter what Coach Carrol says. OSU has just as strong a case for Jason to come to play for the Buckeyes. Whispers have been going around that Coach Tressel and Jason have been very honest with each other and Jason truly is torn (but everybody already knows that). Coach Tressel knows where Jason stands and knows the odds. Jason also knows he has a major chance to get some early playing time at Ohio State and is really impressed with some of the incoming Offensive linemen (ala Boone etc.) and of the GREAT future of Ohio State and loves the top noticed facilities. He also knows USC has a Great program at present and that they are the "hot" team right now, and deservingly so. The weather is also good out there but it's so far away from his family and home. That is a point of topic no matter what has been said.
He will do very well no matter where he goes but I am bias and think if he looked rationally at his chances ... Ohio State holds great things for him and his future !! Can't blame a kid for wanting to be a part of USC though. No matter what (as someone stated), USC and OSU fans will be biting their nails til February 2nd. It's a fun ride !!! Both teams will do great no matter what!!

p.s. Not meaning to contradict any of the experts but OSU still has a GREAT chance to see "Thunder and Lightening" playing at Ohio State very soon. Oh what a sight it would be to see this AMAZING up and coming offensive line mature and these even more AMAZING running backs contending for all the marbles really soon. No matter what this is going to be a very special team in the coming years ... NO MATTER WHAT!!
pss. Jason, best of wishes no matter where you go. Your going to be a great one!!! I hope you join the Buckeye Nation and you'll see just how special it truly is and then how the " Buckeye family" supports you even after you graduate from OSU.

As a Buckeye fan...

...it would be devastating for me to envision a scenario where a prototypical power back would choose to go across the country to ride the pine for 1 - 2 years rather than to take the opporunity to start from day one at the school that might have the most appealing national showcase schedule in September (Texas and Iowa will be preseason top 10) and is most identified w/ the tailback position.

I think Jason's Dad, Uncle and Coach all understand this pretty well, but will let Jason make the decision he feels is best for him. All we can hope for is a strong showing from JT tomorrow.

Stripes,

I understand that USC hasn't recruited a running back for the past two years, but they have something like 5 possible starters going into next year (White, Bush, Washington Dennis - injured etc.) while OSU has 1 backup running back, who played sparingly and was in the coach's dog house, a red shirt possibility and a scat back incoming recruit (no power backs). Those are just the facts and I don't really see how redshirting and possibly sitting another year (USC)compares w/ starting right off the bat at OSU next year. Last year, I could understand how carrol had a convincing argument w/ Fred Davis @ OSU's offense, but I really see little to no edge here in the case of USC and I certainly don't know how you could be so confident unless you had some first hand knowledge of how this is going to all shake out.

Lendale is a power back....we don't have another power back.....I'm just stating what I've been told..SC didn't take a RB last year....You'd think SC would be after another RB if they didn't think they had JG wrapped up....not taking a back for two years would be pretty dumb imo....Hey, who knows, maybe he's telling the same thing to both schools.

You may not have taken a RB last year, but in 2003 you took at least three (Bush, White, and Chauncey Washington). You also had a fourth (Jody Adewale) who is listed as "not yet signed" in the Rivals database. So there's at least three RBs with at least another of eligibility, with at least one of them, if not two, remaining for two more years instead of just one.

As for White being the only "power" back, isn't Washington 6'1", 210? I'm sure he's bulked up a pound or two during his two years there. Or how about senior-to-be Brandon Hancock (6'1", 235)...is he on the team. Your 2002 class also lists Hershel Dennis. By my count, that's five scholarship RBs going into this season...of course I'm only going by the Rivals database of your commits since 2002, so I'm not sure if all these guys as still on your roster.

Adawale-sp?- is a fullback/lb
hancock-fullback
Dennis-hurt won't play next year
Washington-wasn't there last year...may or maynot be there this year

So if Bush and White leave next year...what does that leave us? I don't think we want to start with a freshman....No school wants to...We don't ahve the depth you think we do.

Bingo! Exactly our point! Gwaltney will not see the field as a true freshman if he goes to USC, especially with both Bush and White there, whereas he has a very, very good shot at not only seeing the field but starting as a true freshman at Ohio State. By the way, the last true freshman power back to start for Ohio State did pretty well for himself his freshman year...at least on the field.

SC will play him as a freshman...incase you haven't noticed PC plays a lot of freshman...if a players good enough to start as a freshman than he should start...but I'm sorry, there aren't a ton of Adria Petersons....

the last two freshman backs to play at SC were pretty good too

Same with Ohio State - they could have had Conredge Collins, but told him "no" because they felt that they had their two backs for this year, Wells and ......

As for Jarrett, he verballed to Ohio State right before Signing Day; Coach Conley has confirmed this. Anyone who "called" Jarrett to USC before NLOID 2004 was operating on bad info, or got lucky.

How many of those freshmen played at positions held by top-3 Heisman Trophy candidates? Gwaltney has virtually no chance to become a starter at USC as a true freshman.

It looks like both coaching staffs are confident they are getting him..PC not recruiting another back and Tressel not accepting a Big-Back that wanted to commit..Who knows, it might be whoever talks to him last will get him...Kinda be funny if he announces for WVU...
