Doug Nester (OL Virginia Tech, transfer to West Virginia)

Basically have to recruit Nester as if he is uncommitted but OSU can DEFINITELY keep him in this class come February.
Seems like he’s waiting for Ohio State to solidify the coaching staff moving forward- if he likes the direction things go on that front I’d imagine Ohio State will be in decent shape to keep him.

In translation, does that mean he's waiting for Stud to leave or confirmation he's staying?
I personally have no idea, but I think it might not matter- if Stud stays we’re probably in decent shape, and if he likes the (potential) new guy, we might still be in decent shape.

I think establishing certainty is the biggest key, and the fact that Ohio State apparently can’t give him that right now probably indicates Stud is gone.

I can’t really say it’s surprising given how much Day utilizes an RPO based offense and how openly Stud complained about how hard it is to block on RPO plays all season.

Do you think we have a new O line coach next year? Gut feeling based*

I think so, but that’s based entirely on 1) recruiting - Nestor looking around, Paris Johnson looking around, and Jake Wray decommitting all indicating there is uncertainty in the air right now (I think all, especially Johnson, can be resolved very quickly with a solid hire) 2) the results on the field last year 3) Stud very openly talking about his difficulty with RPO plays and 4) the first three things combined with Meyer not being around anymore to cut his old friend some slack.

It’s not based at all on any “insider” information I have.

Solid indicators, of course we will see what happens but I like your take on it.

Hate talking about this in a recruits thread but I agree. It does seem a case where he wants to come to tOSU but isn’t sold in some aspects from a business perspective of getting to the league perhaps. Unlike other position groups this isnt viewed as a selling point currently. Recent OL draft success isn’t really attributed to Stud.

And, more importantly is just the uncertainty. When LJsr was definitely coming back it helped immensely. With Stud, who the jury is still out on, the uncertainty certainly isn’t helping. I am looking forward to clarity either way after the bowl game. On that point, the 7-10 days after the Rose will be a very interesting news cycle.

I dont think he would have committed so many months ago had he not been sold on Stud.

This is about Doug and coach Day getting acquainted IMO.

We really need this one to stick.

need to get these coaching decisions made pronto during the dead period so they can reel this guy back in. UGA and Penn St. visits loom. He was sold on OSU before the Urban departure, bcame cloudy with Day, and very murky with the uncertainty of who will be his position coach next yr.

I'd love to keep Nester, bud I'd prefer due diligence done on staff decisions. You can't rush that just to keep a player or two.
