Xavier 79, West Va. 75 (Final, OT)

I think it's safe to say that the refs were as inconsistent as the two teams in this one.

Glad to see Xavier winning and moving on to the next round.

That last three pointer on the in-bounds play was the biggest defensive lapse of the tournament so far. It was also a great play by the passer and shooter. Too often guys who get open like that don't get the ball because the passer doesn't see him or doesn't have the guts to execute the cross-court pass.

Xavier's Jason Love shows his excitement in front of West Virginia's Joe Mazzulla, left, and Joe Alexander during the second half.

PHOENIX -- Desperation seems to suit Xavier well.
After coming from behind to defeat 14th-seeded Georgia in the first round and holding off a gritty Purdue team in the second, the Musketeers went an even more dramatic route last night, beating West Virginia 79-75 in a West Regional semifinal to reach the Elite Eight.
Xavier was 3 of 3 on three-pointers in overtime, including the decisive basket that came on an inbound play with two seconds remaining on the shot clock and the Musketeers leading by one.
B.J. Raymond, who also hit the three-pointer to give Xavier its first lead in overtime, was responsible for putting away the Mountaineers, who had overcome an 18-point first-half deficit to reach the extra session.

The one thing that I learned non-basketball from this game is that I could never be a professional gambler. My bet was on X and for some reason I thought the spread was more than 4 and when that player missed most of those two free throws at the end of OT I was just thinking to myself what if I had $100,000 in actual money on that game and the spread was more than 4 points.

Basketball wise I did not understand why Miller took Duncan out of the game during West Virginia's last possession in regulation. Did he know the game was going to go into OT and did not want Duncan to foul out. Taking your tallest guy out on a key possession is different IMO.

Here's another reason for you not to gamble with real money: For this vBet, Xavier was getting the points, not giving them. :wink2:

I think the reason that I:blush: did not look that closely at the point spread was because Xavier was the higher seed and so I guess I thought they would be favored. I guess the bookies don't think like the Selection Committee:biggrin2:
