Apparently, the PS3 has something similar to Xbox's RROD. It's called YROD, and I got it yesterday. It sucks, but I had a good run with this PS3. I bought it shortly before my first daughter was born, and she turns 6 in two months. I've only had to send it away for repairs one time in those 6 years. I think I'll just buy a new one at this point, because I don't want to wait weeks to send it off and have it repaired and then sent back.

Just letting people know in case they have a PS3. Leaving it running for about 8 days straight probably isn't a good idea.

It can be fixed with a heat gun, some thremal paste, and about 45 mins of time. There are tons of threads and videos that walk you through it.

Example:

I did it to my old first gen fat boy, and it works.

I'd rather spend the money and buy a new one. I got three kids, I don't have time to sit around for an hour and do that. Not to mention I don't have any of the tools she was talking about and don't want to go out searching for them all.

She's kind of hot though, so I enjoyed watching a couple minutes of it

That's a scummer for you, lazy  I know how that feels. I've had 2 360's RROD. Holy crap 8 days?!

Has the price on PS3's dropped at all?

looks like 250ish at Wally World.

yeah, 8 days of NBA2K13. Just kept starting 12 minute quarter games then walking away. You get a boatload of virtual currency which is used to upgrade your "my player." Guess the jokes on me now, I'll have to start all over probably.

PS3 has been pretty reliable, unlike the DRE errors the PS2's used to get. I still have my original PS3, although I play more on the PC these days than console. It was the first batch of PS3's too, so it's still backwards compatible with everything. The only thing I've had an issue with was the hard drive after I upgraded it to a 500GB 3rd party drive. That drive turned out bad...lost everything, couldn't even stick it in a PC after it fried.

You may get a boatload of virtual currency, but you're shelling out a LOT more real currency  That's funny though.

Just want to throw a quick plug for Amazon. Found a couple for $245, no tax and BP gets a cut.

If you scroll down to "New" you'll find one for $245 with $4 shipping.

Eh, to each their own. $250 vs about $50 in supplies/tools and an hour of your time is an easy choice for me, but I like to fix my own stuff.

At least see if you can get some cash for the old one. There are places what will pay up to $50 for broken units just for the parts.
