yeah, Elway leaving the Colts really ruined football. So did Francis in Vancouver... :roll1:

It might not have ruined, but I feel it has hurt it. If Yi wants to sit out of professional sports for an entire year, i'm alright with that. Teams caving to the demands of rookies is horrible for sports, espically a game like the NBA where the game can be changed by individuals, unlike the NFL that is more team based. Francis just turned out to be a bit of a bust, so people don't view it as horrible, and the Kobe demanding to be a Laker news didnt' come out until later. Not like you'll find a lot of Kobe fans, same thing with Francis.

The problem is NOT the city of Milwaukee or the Bucks organization that drafted him, rather it is the prima dona actions of a bullshit Chinese basketball bureaucracy that tries to enjoy all the advantage of our sports industry but does not want to follow the accepted rules.

yeah, John Elway, Stevie Francis, and Eli Manning are all Chinese as well.

:roll1: at the jingoism

Yi's refusal to play for the Bucks speaks of egotism, selfishness, and a distaste for proper etiquette. Hey, he's a real American after all...

You know Milwaukee is a sad city when the best you can say about it is that it's "comparable" to the amazing cities of Cleveland and Pittsburgh. :slappy:

actually wasn't Kobe drafted by Milwaukee in the first place? although I think it was a designed pick and trade and htey never really were going to keep him.

Actually, he was picked by the Charlotte Hornets

It's not like baseball or football where Yi can reenter the draft, I believe Milwaukee owns his rights indefinitely. The Bucks are going to suck with or without him for the next couple years. They can wait him out. If he's gonna be a dick about it, then the Bucks should just sit on his rights and essentially lock him out of the NBA.

I'm pretty sure this is not true; Yi just can't play in ANY pro leagues (including china) for 1 year then he can reenter. Which actually isn't that big of a deal for him though, as he can play as an ametuer training with the future olympic team for a year. So Yi is very capible of staying productive throughout this holdout.

Teams usually keep the players rights though because the players don't want to take a year off of pro-pay, like Scola of the Spurs.

What accepted rule is not being followed here? There is no rule that you have to sign with the team that drafted you.

NBA bylaws are not my thing, but I am curious as to how you think the Bucks have the power to prevent him from playing pro ball in China?

Kobe was #1 in jersey sales this year. He was quite popular before shaq-gate.

Wow, i figured it would be carmello or lebron, those are the only two jerseys I see people wearing. To say Kobe doesn't have fans was foolish of me, but I still don't think he is an ideal spokesperson for a product because he has more people who can't stand him then just about anybody.

I pointed out that it is comparable to those cities not to convince you that Milwaukee is a cultural Mecca, but rather that is not any LESS cultured than the majority of other NBA cities or any other city in the Midwest for that matter. Like i said before, this isn't a Milwaukee only problem... this is a problem that would have encountered the majority of NBA teams.

I'm not 100% sure this is correct, but i'm under the understanding that:

They can't stop him from playing proball in China, but if he does they will hold onto his rights. So if the Bucks refuse to trade him, and he plays pro-ball in china, he won't be able to enter the draft next year. If the Bucks don't trade him, and he doesn't play pro-ball in china (or europe), he can reenter the draft.

Kobe changed is number from #24 to #8 before the start of this past season. Hence the brisk sales this past year.
