Yo! First real post. =)

Really happy to see you guys over here. Kyle, I tried PM'ing you a few times through BN yesterday, did none of that worK? I'm assuming Hubs got a hold of you.

Still waiting to hear from Tibor, RLC, gbear, pressbox, boro, phx and sloopy -- but honestly, anyone you all want to invite is fair game. For that matter anyone who just finds their way over is a plus as well.

Mili, you can adjust the clockwithin your own settings, but you have to do it without regard to the timezone the pulldown suggests. So if you're -6 off the system clock, just go for -6, and not necessarily where it calls for Hawaii. If that makes any sense. Quite frankly I haven't quite figured out the time deal, I think it wants me to set to GMT, and then let everyone adjust from there, I set it to CBus (Eastern). More annoying, I think the battery in my server may be crapping out, because it looks like it's losing a minute or so every week or two. May have to fix that at some point.

If "Use 'Email Notification' by default?" is set to no, then also make sure that you haven't subscribed to the thread/board in question. Click the "user cp" button and make sure that you don't have anything listed under subscriptions. If you do, simply click "unsubscribe". The board simply offers a feater where you can subscribe to specific threads that are important to you, if you want to track them or otherwise be notified when they're updated.

Another thing you may want to do is go back to any previous posts you made, and make sure you didn't check "Email Notification" under options. That's not checked by default certainly, but in testing features some of us may have played with that as well.

If both of those are as they should be, and you're still getting mail, let me know and I'll try and dig deeper.

Obviously having all these news and cool little features will take some getting used to, but I feel confident that with time we'll really appreciate a lot of them.

These are the little quirks that will need to be ironed out in the early going, so apologies for any inconvenience, but thanks for being lab monkeys for me.

I think I found it Jim,

Your first post had the email option checked. I went back and unchecked it for you. I think it was your first post, it was the one that read;

"Test-Test-Test
Yo first real post!
Invite? I was always a party crasher when younger, why change now."

Anyway, you shouldn't be getting any more emails. Let me know if that's not the case.

Also, I think I misspoke before. Subscribing to a thread or forum does not mean you're emailed when there are responses. It simply tracks that thread in your profile for easy access later.

The only way (outside of user options in "user cp") to get email notification is to check that box in the Options field when you're creating a message. If you check that and need to uncheck it later, you can do that through the edit option.

I always enjoy the opportunity to exchange information with and about Buckeyes and so have registered here. With few exceptions I have had no real problem with either OZone or Bucknuts and will continue to lurk and post on both as indicated. It will take me a while to figure out just how this may be different than either. I emailed Clarity privately as to one or two small concerns regarding style and content, but if common sense prevails they should be no problem
Three months from today we will be dissecting what I expect and hope will be the first win of the season. Until then, we will count the days.
Go Bucks!

I'm still trying to get familiar with the format... I don't see Brett here, I'm sure he'll find his way...

This seems to be all bucknuts folks... anybody on the other two sites "invited?" I'll let killernut know about this site (he steered me towards bucknuts a couple years ago, i'll return the favor with this site)...

How are we going to get fans from other schools to find this place? Seems like they use rivals or insiders to locate the forums, this isn't part of those... could be a challenge to find those guys... maybe we would invite their sit a couple of weeks before the games and provide a link...

As long as this doesn't turn into grassy I'll be a happy camper!! Hey Mili, looks like you can post what you want now (speaking of that how many times have you been "banned" from BuckNuts?)...

Hey Dragon, think you could provide practice reports (just don't include plays or trick plays the coaches are practicing... I really missed those over the spring)... would be nice to read this summer...

No worries, we'll never go anywhere near Grassy. In fact, we're going to be just as moderated as BN, but in such a way where the mods are much more empowered. They can ban, view IPs, etc. They'll decide based on 'community standards' (meaning not just one person's opinion, or based upon incoming whines from those easily offended) what should or shouldn't be edited or deleted, etc. If it can be said on network primetime tv, it can be said here. And I think that's largely the way BN is now, but in the past words like "pissed", "ass" and others like those have been censored. I know I've spoken a lot about this already, but I gave off the wrong picture with some of my comments before, and I want to be entirely clear that while "fun" is the focus, a free for all is not.

This isn't here just so we can be lewd, crude and obnoxious. It's just intended to be another good place to talk, with certain liberties, freedoms and environments that we collectively find important - regardless of what other boards do or do not employ themselves. Bottom line is that the stats and player input are "the site", and having a forum seemed a nice addition to that. Obviously we only have the latter now, but with time, it will simply be a compliment to the main features.

As far as bringing in fans from other schools, that's defintely something I'm concerned about, and I'm open to any and all opinions. I am planning on trying to loosely affiliate with some of the major 'indy' sites out there from other schools. Sites like umgoblue, huskerpedia, etc. etc., they're actually all over the place, and many are bigger than their Rivals or Insiders counterparts. Visiting fans is a big thing with me, and I'll be at BN as long as I'm welcome probably to get some of that exposure.

I've been thinking about sensitive issues (like practice reports), and wondered about all of that. We have the capacity to create invisible, private and protected forums that certain people could have access to. Anything unsuitable for public consumption could be discussed in those, and people already inside could pick and choose who else to invite in. Obviously I more than respect the uni's wishes and the sensitivity of certain things, just thinking out loud about the things we can do.

My EYE!!! I've lost my EYE!!!

I'm here, but WTH (what the heck) I can't use Buckeye InTheBoro!?!?!!:pissed: It seems your name field is shorter than Bucknuts... I may forget who I am!

I'm not sure how this will differ from Bucknuts or if I have the time/energy for another addiction, but we'll find out together I suppose. The extra features look nice, and your idea of the stats DB to end all stats DBs would (will?) be sweet.

Aside from allowing my full name, some suggestions:

Can you make it so that, when I highlight a word then press bold or color, etc. it will recognize that I wish to manipulate that word? I like to type in an entire post then go back and reformat, but it keeps inserting my reformatted text at the end of my post. I realize that this might be "just the way it works", but as a programmer, that kind of stuff just bugs me.

Any way you can change the word RED in the drop-down list to scarlet?

Boro, there may well be a mod that allows that, vB has a rich programming community. Either way, that may also be a feature in v3 of the software, which is just a couple months away, and if it's not, we'll ask for it.

Either way, we can get that. But as a non-programmer, I can't offer an instant fix unless there's an existing mod.

As far as how this will be different than anything else out there, I guess I'll just say that once it's going, our goal here is just going to be to do what we do well. If we're similar or not to something already out ther, I'm not going to lose sleep over that. The stats and player input are going to be the big draws.

The board at the very least is a place for me to chat should I get run off of BN.

-edit-
Update: I found a hack that suits your needs Boro, and after testing it on another board, really like that added functionality. If there's anything else you all can imagine would be a nice addition, let me know, it's probably already out there somewhere.

I'll add the vb Code Buttons hack this afternoon.

A few others I'm considering;

"Disable Smilies" user option - for those who don't want to see them when others use them.

"Whobuddies" - adds a list to your profile showing who has you flagged as a buddy.

"vb Member Photo" - adds the option of attaching a personal photo to your member profile, creating a user gallery of such pics.

"Bump" - Allows the bumping of a thread without a post. No need for 'TTT' or 'bump' posts. Could be annoying, but it allows user limiting, as well is floodcheck and limits on the number of times something can be bumped per definable time period.

"Make Invisible Users Visible to Mods" - self explanatory.

The flip side to all of this is that vB v3 is right around the corner, and these hacks may be obsolete as soon as next month. So maybe I'll just stick with the one Boro requested for now.

AKAK, yeah, too many smilies perhaps. About half of them are specific to Big Ten teams like :osu: :osu3: :osu2:, but 79 is kind of nuts. That's sort of why I was looking into a means of letting people disable viewing them as an individual user setting.

I added a bunch of new "stock" avatars (user icons) yesterday as well. People can upload or link to their own, but I wanted a few dozen in place as default options, and yesterday made sure we had all the Heisman winners, a few more of Woody and Tress, etc.

Boro -- added scarlet and gray as color tags.
