Your Best Cable Deal? Suggestions?

Any recent experience with misc. cable providers around the Columbus area? I have to switch in the next couple months (or sooner, if I do it before the start of football season). Wondering if anyone has gotten a good/great deal lately.

This is the best thread I could find regarding this topic.

Time Warner Cable just informed me that they generously plan to only charge me $58.84 for basic high speed internet on my next bill down from the normal price of $80.84.

I have Direct TV and am only interested in internet service.

I'm switching to WOW or AT&T. Any thoughts? I'm thinking WOW because it seems like the most straight forward and the best deal but any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks ahead of time.

I switched to AT&T almost a year ago. Been very satisfied. But it depends on where the source comes from. The in ground box is about 100 feet from our place and is very dependable. I pay $100 flat per month for cable and internet.

Also, it helps to make "friends" with the installer as they will come out and help without a surcharge. Otherwise they want to throw some random charge (want to say 50-100$). It also depends where you live. They are now pushing into Toledo for more business and we can play the Buckeye cable system card for deals.

And, we recently got new furniture and moved our TV to the other side of the room a few months ago, but it wasn't compatible with the setup originally created. They sent someone out and created a new connection modem with no charge. It also helps my wife can be a hardass when it comes to money (Financial auditor being her title gives her plenty of practice).

I had AT&T pull a total Bullshit bait&switch on the phone with me earlier in November. Shouldn't have bothered--I already hated the company. Dropped them like a hot rock.

My experience with WOW is that they are very open to negotiation. You may have to call more than once to get one of their more gung-ho sales people, but it's worth it. Before I moved in Oct., I was paying a final bill of $71 for phone, internet and cable up thru the 200's HD channels.
You just gotta be persistent with them.

Alright, can't figure out what to do next. Spectrum just raised our price for the second time in six months and I am just not going to pay it anymore. I have to stay with them for internet as they are the only game in town. I am contemplating Direct TV over Dish just to get the NFL Ticket. What's the latest thoughts out there that are not cutting the cord completely?

As has been discussed before, Sling, Hulu, and Playstation Vue all have very economical TV deals that include packages with pretty much all the sports channels. You'd have to check about NFL, but I think maybe I've seen that offered, too.

Dish does seem to advertise cheapie TV deals a lot-- never checked into them. But, the one advantage with the above packages is that they mostly all have trial packages for free for a week or two, and no contract.

I'd like to hear from someone who has cut the cord and moved to Playstation Vue. My cable bill just keeps going up and up every month and I'm getting close to the breaking point. I really, truthfully, watch 4 channels; Big 10 Network, MLB Network, NFL RedZone and CNBC before I head to work. If I could find a package that had all 4, which Playstation Vue seems to have, I'm not just cutting the cord, I'm ripping it out of the wall.

Just understand that you face buffering outages when you cut the cord. This may seem trivial, but in the middle of The Game or the playoffs, it's a huge deal. It also makes it hard to feel confident hosting a party.

Also, screw spectrum for coming in and ruining TWC's first attempt at competent internet. They were building new lines and were preparing for major upgrades.

In comes spectrum to buy them out and start trumping themselves up , celebrating how much faster they are than aDSL and capping their high end at entry level speeds. It's not freaking 2001, spectrum, stop using comparisons from that era. Just in case you're not a tech person, they're singing the praises of their 50-60 meg internet. Had TWC stayed intact, they would have offered 300 meg internet.

I had Playstation Vue last year. I liked it very much. Used the DVR feature to record shows. I'm pretty sure I was able to set it to record live games when there were simultaneous broadcasts--you might want to check that, in case my memory is faulty. I know stuff like Urban's preshow was something I could record. I had decent internet speed at the time, and almost never had any buffering issues. The one thing I'm recalling right now is that there was a wee bit of a delay in the broadcast time, so if, for example, I was reading the BP posts during the game, they'd react to something that hadn't happened in my reality yet. Just maybe half a minute of so--not such a big deal. Again, you should be able to find a free trial offer from them to check out the service. I've had Vue and Sling, and definitely found Vue's consistency and reliability superior.

Vue has more than one package, last year the prices went up by about $10/pkg. It might have been the middle one--@ $35/month, that had BTN, but that's also something you can check on their website. Might have changed since I had it.

I've had WOW (cable, internet, & land phone) for a few years now. Apparently they just sold their Cleveland and Columbus accounts to Breezeline (formerly Atlantic Broadband). So like it or not I now have Breezeline. Anybody have any experience with them?
