Youth Football - anybody have a kid playing?

NightmaresDad

Woody Rules!
Well we had our first game of the season yesterday, and Nightmare had 11 carries for 179 yards an 4 TDs. Not a bad start. Had a lackluster day on defense though.
We are in the Bantam division (1st and 2nd graders)

Anybody else have a kid playing youth football?

Not my own kid, but my nephew starts his second season next weekend. The kid is a beast. When asked if he wanted to play soccer or football. His reply was, "Football has a lot more hitting in it, so I'm definitely going to play football." Led the team in tackles and sacks as a seven year old last year. He's a 75 lb kid going against 120 lb kids, and they can't stop him. He can't run the ball worth a crap, but the kid can block, and he loves to tackle. The best part is watching these kids and the coaches reactions when they make a big play. It is definitely a lot of fun to watch.

There was a kid on the other team from Huber Heights that lit us up a few times. His last name is Dozier. You will hear that name again for Wayne HS in about 8 years, I'm sure.

Good luck with your season. BTW, how's the Loveland program? It is probably huge considering the size of the schools down there.

That is awesome to hear about a young man with a big heart. It sounds like fun to watch hm play and play with passion - that is rare, especially at that age. Hope he has a great year.

My little brothers scrimmage was today. My dad is estimating he got about 15 carries, had TD runs of 65 yards, and 80 yards and probally well over 200 total yards rushing in a big victory for southern local over new lexington 18-6.. Southern Local is atiny school (my graduating class had 66 people) against new lex who is the biggest school in perry county.

He played Safety too, but hasnt adjusted from Linebacker yet.(He was mad because he didn't realize we was allowed to move up and hit people)

The perennial fight going on in the house... youngest wants to play.. wife refuses... says he's too thin... not like Dad, that's for damn sure... He hits like a brick but he is skinny...

My nephew is starting 8th grade in CBus... and from listening to NightmaresDad posts, I thought it was my bro-in-law because my nephew has outrageous stats every week... He's a RB but disappointingly I don't know how long that will last... kid projects out at 6'7" ... but he's a man child... His older brother is a lineman but already 6'3 in 9th and projected out at 6'9"

My in-laws are both OSU grads so obviously that's where this demon is pointed but his very successful Aunt (not on my side) is a scUM grad and has promised to pay all expenses for tsun for all my CBus nephews and niece...

My 8 year old son is into his third week of practice, is his second year in the league (7-9 year olds). Josh is a solid (believe it or not) 102 lbs and not a mean streak in him. He's playing right guard, and basically just has to stand up and nobody is going to get by him. If he ever gets "nasty" he could dominate, but I'll leave that one up to him. His coaches are great guys, never bitching, always encouraging. That's the key to midget football, Little League baseball, or anything else. Just let the kids have fun, because in their little minds, the game itself means NOTHING in comparison to the "treat" after the game.

Best of luck to all the "pee-wee" players out there. And to all the parents, have fun with it also, cuzz it goes real fast.

Soldier, that is awesome. he must have some serious wheels to bust those long runs. How old is your little bother? (just trying to keep up on recruiting!)

If your youngest is still a little guy, meaning still under 5th or 6th grade - tell your wife not to worry - with all the equipment, rules in place, and the basically rubber bodies of little kids, there's almost no way to get hurt playing youth FB. In all the years I've been around it, you see kids get bent into funny positions, but they never get injured.
I sure hope you and your in-laws trump any plans your evil, if well-intentioned aunt may have for your nephews to go to scUM. (hell, if she really has their best interests at heart, she would offer to pay no matter where they went -it sounds like she can afford to) Hopefully, those boys keep on growing and also grow to love tOSU.

Ha!!! The Loveland football teams suck. We won 3 games last year and those were taken away when our star WR was discovered to be ineligeble.

Even the youth teams suck. I played youh football for 4 years and I bet we won about 7 games that entire time.

The QB on my 2nd year team had his arm broken after he was sacked.
