  • Just checked out the Penguins' schedule for this year, and they play five teams currently ranked in the I-AA top 20 (Southern Illinois #2, Northern Iowa #7, Western Kentucky #10, Western Illinois #15, and McNeese State #17). What's worse is they have a 3-game stretch where they play #10, #2, and #7 in consecutive games, and those are two weeks after the play at #17. So, they'll play four top-17 teams in five weeks. Youch! Talk about SOS!

I'm not as up on I-AA Mili...can they miss the playoffs if they lose 2 or maybe 3 of those? That would seem unfair, given the SOS factor and the fact that some other I-AA school could be 11-0 but be playing the University of Greater Greensboro Dilweed Planters every week.

YSU went to the playoffs and won the national title 1991 with three regular season losses. They also made the playoffs with two regular season losses in 1992, 1993, 1997, and 1999, making it to the title each year, and winning the national title in both 1993 and 1997.

Since they already have a loss, I don't think they can't make the playoffs if they lose more than two more games, even with their SOS (they're currently unranked in I-AA polls). Conversely, should they run the table from here out, I can see them going from unranked to top-5 by the end of the regular season.
