Zach Smith (Official Thread)

Really?
Ohio State coach takes jab at recruit who picked Tennessee over Buckeyes

Tennessee received the commitment of 2016 recruit Jarrett Guarantano on Wednesday afternoon.

Rated as the No. 6 pro-style quarterback in the country, Guarantano chose the Vols overOhio State and Rutgers and Buckeyes coach Zach Smith didn't mince words about the decision...

Just a "The More That You Know" public access message imo. Kirk Barton said it best in saying "You either choose Ohio State or get beaten by Ohio State."

Given the timing, I think the article is correct in assuming who that was directed towards. But either way, we have a great competitor/athlete that committed for 2016 and I am very excited about him. If JG is more comfortable with UT, then that is where he should go. Orange is a pretty color. Some kids want comfort, not rings. Whatever QB we missed in Cardale Jones/JT Barrett's class I cannot even bother to look up. I could always be wrong but with UFM at the helm, I feel like we will be excited that Wallace committed at the end of it.

Not a huge fan of our coaches sub-tweeting recruits who choose other schools. Smells of hurt feelings and seems very JayBau-ish, but whatever. We did very well with Wallace and should be celebrating that.

I am not going to lie, I wanted Guarantano, but Wallace is a close 1-B. I am sure JG will do well at UT, but Wallace will be in the Heisman talk most likely similarly to JT and Braxton because of what is around him and the success he will have, while JG is getting beat by Vandy.
After the long and unsuccessful pursuits of preferred qbs in previous classes, and the development of those they already had, I'm glad to be able to put qb recruiting on the shelf (in stellar condition) until the 2018 class (who are currently freshmen).

A bush-league move....Hopefully not to become a habit

Didn't Meyer tell Vonn Bell he could ride with him to the championship or get beat on the way? How is this different, besides the fact the Bell chose Ohio State? I don't think Coach Smith said anything he wouldn't have said to the kid in person. I don't see a thing wrong with this. This staff doesn't mince words, and that's part of what makes it great. It's not like he said anything that wasn't true.

Because he told Bell that....he didn't put it on twitter like a passive aggressive high school girl.

Basically this:

I'll also add that it was said to Bell as part of his recruitment. I see a big difference between challenging a kid while still actively recruiting him and posting a pissy tweet shortly after he's committed to a different school.

The tweet also implies that a kid ran from competition. That sounds different than telling a kid you might be watching us play for a Natty.
