Zach Smith (Official Thread)

It's not illegally keeping players eligible though so this is very different. Urban May be didn't morally handle this the best way but nothing was against the rules.

He's fine.

I didn't mean to imply rule breaking. I'm talking about how you feel in regards to supporting a guy who lies to cover things up.

Unlike folks in Happy valley, I don't worship the statue of a football coach. I wasn't alright with Tressel lying to the NCAA and I don't think I am going to be able to be alright with Urban Meyer keeping a known abuser on his staff then firing him the minute it got out.

Football be damned. That isn't the kind of person I want anything to do with or would send my kid to.

So fire urban for keeping a domestic abuser (who wasn't charged until last week) on his staff?

Once legal action was pursued OSU acted. If people just punished folks for every dropped charge then whats the point of being innocent?

I don't think he should've been on the staff neither but UFM took a chance on a higher risk guy. It back fires and they have now moved on from him

I’m confused, Urban lied about Smith? He obviously hired a guy with a checkered past. I’m okay giving a person a second chance. The 2015 Report is really troubling.

Where I struggle here is the vetting that occurred with other coaches on the staff prior to hiring and wondering if that same vetting occurred with Smith.

Urban knew what was going on, charges or not. No way he didn't.

Sounds like a "what was Joe supposed to do?" take from BWI.

I doubt they fire him but that has nothing to do with my own personal opinion.

It was a favor for Earle because Urban thought he owed Earle one, no need to over analyze this more. Zach wasn't hired for his coaching skills

I know I've been a little more outspoken on this (siding towards Jax's view that this is a terrible look), but I think can live with the above explanation as well. It's fair that this is the first time charges have been pursued and Urban is taking action.

The background to how we got here is uglier than that and it's hard to shake. And the public ain't buying it either.

Imo fuck the public... you can't run around firing people for other people's actions.

As you said neither past incidence had a charge and this one does... now he's fired.

Where UFM errored is even having Zach on the squad to begin with. However up until now Zach legally hadn't done anything wrong.

Sure he knew but he also knew charges were dropped.. he should've never hired him to begin with.

With that said what can you do if charges aren't pressed?
