'05 OH WR Shane Carter (Wisconsin signee)

Hey Bernini, how has Bill Nagy been looking for the badgers this spring?

I've been asked that question a few times at Buckeye Planet since I've been a member here, and it's always a tough question to answer. Nagy isn't a very publicized guy by the Wisconsin media, positive or negative.

What I can tell you is he was 2nd on the spring depth chart behind a senior. No other players were injured at guard who would have otherwise factored into the discussion, so his path is pretty clear to start for 2 seasons starting in '09.

Also, I was able to observe him extensively in the spring game, where he lined up at both guard spots and center. Center looked like his most comfortable position, but he's blocked for 3 years by Jon Moffitt there. Nagy was quick off the football. He's kind of similar to Oglesby where he's disproportionately better at run blocking than pass blocking. He did a nice job of pushing the pile and steering defenders away from the hole. As long as he's going forward he's fine. Once he starts to attempt to block laterally against the pass, he's mediocre to average. I don't know if it's a lateral quickness issue or he misses his assignments. Maybe it's both. He's a solid lineman overall though. He's every bit as good as one of the two current starting guards, Andy Kemp, but Kemp of course has the seniority.

In less festive Wisconsin news, it appears the college career of Shane Carter (Troy) has come to an unhappy conclusion after school officials upheld his indefinite suspension. Carter, disciplined by Bielema last month for an offense that has been kept quiet, started 20 games for the Badgers. The fifth-year senior entered fall camp No. 2 on the depth chart at free safety.
