'08 PA LB Shayne Hale (Pitt signee)

So tlinc, if Hale calls up Tressel tomorrow and says "I'm a Buckeye" what happens then?

If he still has an offer - the spot is his.

If he really doesn't have one, then I'm pretty sure the recruiting staff would have been completely upfront with Hale.

The only other hypothetical option is that Hale is letting the prior listed offer stay public, when in fact that 'ship has sailed, as O8ch said, with Sabino and Howard.

My point is, I think you are making an unwarranted assumption that the Buckeye staff are somehow in the wrong on this, when that is not their style.

Honestly, I have no idea how this stuff really works. Assuming Hale has an actual written offer, how do they tell him it is revoked? I seriously don't know how this stuff works. Do they tell the coach? Do they tell the player? Do they just ignore him and assume he will get the message?

I wasn't implying that our coaching staff has done anything wrong at all. I think we even go way out of our way to not play games with recruits and that is one reason we offer way fewer players than many other schools who seem to play more games.

I was just pointing out that I hope they are able to pull his offer (assuming that is what happened) in a way that does not bother the coach or any of his talented younger teammates because Gateway seems to have a lot of great players and would be a nice place to get a bit of a foothold.

just stop calling thing was pretty much how I broke up with girls in high school. Believe me when I tell you it made it more difficult to ever have a shot with one of their friends at a later date. I'm sure Tress will be a bit smoother with things than 16 year-old me was.
My thing is if your girl(Hale in this example) was at the mall with your friend(when Hale started looking at other schools and discussing possible future there) and then she started playing you like she wanted to take things slow(like Hale talkin about package deal knowing that we weren't in that business), I'm saying if I were you, I would have dropped her quicker than quick(as we did with Hale) and let her know that if she smells somethin stinkin its me cause I'm the shit!(OSU is the place to be) and let all the other girls know that I don't play games(message to Bell and other potential recruits). This is the protocol that had you followed you would have been able to hook up with all the ladies. This is fact. Nice guys finish last.

Regardless of stars and rankings, It is my own personal opinion that Hale's stock has fallen. Yes he is a beast, he is a man child, and he will be successful wherever he goes but it looks as though he was hiding when we we in town.

I really don't feel that tOSU is in a delicate situation at all. If anything, I would think that Hale and his coach are in a delicate situation. Imagine if they make our staff angry. Here we are ranked in the top 10 this year and we are trying to build a good relationship with Gateway. The moment we offered one schollie to any of their players, it would have been in the coaches best interest to advise the player to accept for the future good of the whole. Instead, we are getting the shaft and made to look stupid and before long we aren't going to be going to Gateway to actively recruit. We may still offer token offers but as far as hard core recruiting we will know that it has been and will be a waste of time. JMO!
That's a pretty homerific way of looking at it.

....that is being polite IMO.

The fact remains that if the players coming from Gateway are good enough they will get all the offers they need. To act as if OSU is the end all - be all (or anything even close) is a bit much.

I have hoped that Hale would come around to the idea of playing DE (as I feel that is the biggest need on that side of the ball) but know that is highly unlikely.

Purely speculation, but maybe it all comes down to the fact that there's really nothing left for them to talk about. The staff could still want Hale, hence the offer, but feel that Hale is deadset on attending school with Saddler. Being that we're not gonna offer Saddler, it sounds like our progress with this prospect has reached an impasse. I'm assuming if Hale is close enough with Saddler that they're a package deal, he wouldn't show him up in the media by saying this much. Seems like a character guy to me, sticking it out with his friend, not wasting Michigan's time and money if he has no intention of going there. I'd be happy to have him on my sideline.

Recruiting

Saddler, a running back-defensive back, and Gateway teammate Shayne Hale made an official recruiting visit to West Virginia this weekend. Saddler will announce his decision later this week and the finalists are Pitt, West Virginia and Virginia.
Saddler and Hale attended the Pitt-West Virginia game, but Hale has not set a timetable to pick a college.
"I went out with [West Virginia receiver] Wes Lyons after the game, but it wasn't too great," Saddler said. "Everyone was just shocked."

Rivals $

12/6

From the UVA site...says Cam decision does not change his view of UVA. Says OSU is coming on strong but not as strong as UVA and is considering an official to OSU this weekend. Also talks about the possibility of staying at home and joining Cam at Pitt.

This is wierd. tOSU is coming on strong? I didn't even know we were still pursuing him. Man, I really wish I was a fly on the wall sometimes.

Wuts the feeling on this guy right now? From what I've heard and from the handful of clips in his AMP piece, the guy just doesnt look explosive at the LB position.. his film this yr isnt in the same ballpark as a season ago.. he also looks a step hesitant in his reads.. And at defensive end, I've heard he was absolutely lost and a nonfactor all season at that position

There's a free video on Rivals where Hale slips up at the end and says he'd "love to play Middle Linebacker at Ohio State, I mean in college".

I thought that too when I first heard it, but I'm pretty sure he was saying "high school". He won't be playing Middle backer at Ohio State, though...at least not by the time he graduates.

Just about every school has told him he will start out at LB but will probably end up with his hand in the dirt by the time he leaves...I don't think OSU is any different.

I think UVA and Pitt are the leaders right now but the race isn't over...
