Watt's father did not attend however Chris & his mother were VERY impressed. Chris shall make another visit w / father some time this June / July. As far as ND....give them time to cut their own throats by constantly putting pressure on Watt. As ND continues to "corner" Watt look for other schools to eventually gain favor by using "low key" approach. Once Mr. Watt become familiar w/ OSU coaches, faccilities, fan base etc...I would be shocked if Watt's top 3 choices did not have the Bucks high on list.
But Chris is THOROUGHLY RESEARCHING his growing list of offers. IMO he will not verbal until late summer (but before Sr. season starts)

If a kid visits a school three times, that usually means whatever they're doing to recruit him isn't pissing him off.
Across the board, Notre Dame has really slowed down their approach to recruiting this year - they're certainly out on the road less, and they're not offering as many as quickly. In part thats because of the new recruiting rules, and in part because they want to spend more time with the current players (something they really needed to do more of, obviously). They're telling a lot of kids to take their time, which I didn't hear as much last season. Most of their OL targets are planning to take all their officials, so I really don't see the Irish being in any rush to squeeze Watt in before someone else verbals.
And no, I'm not naive enough to think that ND hasn't resorted to pressure tactics before (7 coaches knocking on Lawrence Wilson's door). I just don't see "pressure" being a part of this year's approach. They're definitely playing it more low key with their kids.
I heard that Chris's older brother considered walking on at ND when Coach Walker passed away at Northwestern. Something to the effect of not being sure if his scholarship would be honored by the new coaching staff, so ND became plan B. Obviously, NU did honor the scholly, but either way there is a common thread of brand name degrees.
NOT saying its a slam dunk or anything, far from it, but my point is that a lot of indications I've gotten are that the brand name of a degree looks like an important part for those associated with the Watt family. I think ND is in it, but I wouldn't sleep on Northwestern either. OSU, ND, and NU should all be in it 'til the very end.

Its pretty hard to sell kids on that. Some kids aren't bothered by that, but a lot of them are. It just depends on if you think, "They SUCK!", or "Playing time on national TV!" Either way, ND wants to keep these kids in play long enough in the hopes that our much weaker schedule this year gives us 7-9 wins to point to and say, "We're almost there; put us over the top," so their taking the foot off the gas in a big way.
After that, the impressions you get of ND as a recruit really just depend, because the staff treats each kid differently. To give an example, a couple kids came away loving their experience at their junior day last year, mentioning lots of glad handing from Weis, Ianello, and the rest of the staff, (two verballed on sight). At the same time, a couple recruits said they were completely ignored by the staff and were flat out pissed about traveling all the way to be shafted (Wermers, O'Neill; both went to UM). Same junior day, totally different impressions. Its case by case.
Either way, each school offers something the other doesn't. Northwestern has a brother and perhaps the best academics out of all of them, ND looks like the "middle" option between football and Ivy-league-esque academics, OSU can point to BCS Championships and a best friend. I think OSU has a little more in their corner going into this, since the combo of a best friend and BCS championships is a great 1-2 punch, but ND and NU are definitely within striking distance, and they're both making good progress.
I've read plenty of things that could point to an ND verbal if I didn't already know about Watt's connections to NU and OSU. Could say the same for any of the three schools; its gonna be close. I think OSU has the slight edge right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if any of those three got his signature next February. I'll just leave it at that though, just one person's perspective.
