'09 IL WR Terry Hawthorne (Illinois Signee)

Wasn't going to start a thread but this kid has named OSU (along with Illinois) as a leader to two different reporters...Illinois has to be considered the early favorite to land him (along with teammate Kraig Appleton).

Terry picked up early offers from Illinois, Minnesota, and Vanderbilt. Right now, he does not see himself going far from home and Illinois is very appealing.

From O&B News...was not able to make his visit to Illinois but will visit Missouri and Kansas soon. Has offers from Illinois, Missouri and Vanderbilt and is hearing from Kansas, Kansas State and USC. No favorites.

From the Missouri site...Missouri has offered. Says he and Kraig have not discussed playing to gether in college. Going to the NIKE camp at Florida in March and hoping to make spring visits to Kansas State, Illinois and Missouri.

From O&B News...recaps his visit to Illinois this past weekend and watching practice. Says he will play on either side of the ball. Favors Illinois, Missouri, and Vanderbilt (offered) as well as considering Kansas State and Ohio State.

Scout $

By Trieu...talks about forming one of the top WR tandems in the country, along with teammate Kraig Appleton. Names a top 3 of Ohio State, Illinois and Missouri.

Kraig Appleton has not shown much interest in tOSU to this point....so I think I am gonna scratch this one (Terry) off my list if he truly wants to form "one of the top WR tandems in the country, along with teammate Kraig Appleton". Unless there's something brewing with Kraig and tOSU that we don't know anything about.

/\ /\ /\ I am editting this post..... I stand to be corrected on what I had posted earlier, and there is certainly some mutual interest between Kraig and tOSU. In fact he now lists us in his top 5. That bodes well for us recruiting Terry (that's if our coaching staff is looking at him).

^Its wayyyy tooo early to be scratching anybody off any list. Sit back and enjoy the ride. We are as big of a player as anybody at this point. I have a sneaky suspicion that certain teams(Illinois) aren't gonna make the same noise they made last year.

I believe the "tandem" refers to them playing together for their senior season, not playing together in college (though a possibility for that]

James Jackson.

ThaKid meant the two best WR's leaning towards Illinois. :) He's already forgetting how badly he wanted Chris Fields.

Some other guys who would be in the "team picture":

Cameron Gordon
Dion Sims (although some consider him a lock to end up at TE)
James Jackson (as The Man said...probably the top WR in the Midwest)
Bryan Underwood (I'd put his offer list up against Hawthorne's)
Perez Ashford
Keenan Davis
Patrick White

This kid says we are his leader in the new Scout article (free).. I watched his tape, and would interested to hear what others think. I was expecting more from a Top100 rated player. Maybe it's just his running style, but he seems rigid when he runs, really doesnt have speed that jumps out at your on tape. He has some nice catches in traffic, and displays some nice cuts in some of the highlights, but I dunno, i think the way he runs just isnt "attractive" if that makes any sense, and maybe that's why Im not as high on him as some others.

I dont see the Percy Harvin comparison at all.

If I was ranking MW receivers.. I'd go Jackson, Appleton or Fields, and then Hawthorne at this point

I have to agree...one of the 10 best in the Midwest but there are certianly a couple of guys I would have a notch above. The only thing I saw similar to Harvin was the fact both measured around 6-1 185 going into their senior seasons. Harvin was in another galaxy as far as film goes...

Well, his teams helmets do sort of look like those old school Florida helmets?

The consensus was early that Appleton was the better WR. But as more and more highlights of Hawthorne comes out, some of those people who thought Appleton was clearly better (Illinois rivals guy) have backed off that and are saying that Hawthorne has possible 5 star potential.

At this point, both are strong Illinois leans.

Are you guys watching just the Scout highlights because his Rivals highlight tape is spectacular. His running style is a bit ackward, he is a long strider like TGII, maybe alittle ridgid but it does not affect him in the speed department. I counted at least 3 times where he should have been caught by people that had angles but he uses his speed to go right by them(no need to juke when you can just run straight).

Percy Harvin I do not think is as fast as people think, he just has out of this world explosion and burst. Hawthorne's speed is better than his explosion, but he is still a great athlete. He has no fear going over the middle and has good body control. He is a solid 4* but he is not on the level of Posey, Green ect from last year.
