'09 MI TE/WR Dion Sims (Michigan State Signee)

I like where we stand in this one. He will be allowed to play both sports if he chooses to play football but he won't get a basketball scholarship.

I think we utilize the tight end better and Dion knows we have absolutely no depth at the position.

He could come in and start from Day 1.

Also he has a great relationship with Izzo.

By Bill Kurelic...Sims is leaning toward playing football slightly over basketball. States his top 5 as Ohio State, Miami, Tennessee, Georgia, and UCLA. Plans on visiting OSU for an official AND a game.

VERY positive update. Many speculated he was going the basketball route. Also being in the Top 5 with nothing but WAAAAY out of town schools is a plus.

Thanks for the update, my buddy! Can't imagine him saying all of this w/out encouragement from the staff as well.

Paul Johnson?

Was Sims ties only to Gailey? Because it's not like Johnson is going to install the flexbone on Day 1...and even then I expect him to start to put a more balanced option attack in place (see: Texas in 2005, Florida in 2006).

I could just see something like the hiring of Johnson putting some "doubt" into the kid. Even if Johnson told him he was running the spread from Day 1 (as an example).

I was just throwing that out there though because I'm just as surprised as you to not see them up there. Don't know which is more surprising though the absence of GT or the absence of UM and/or MSU from the top 5.

We're probably going to pick up a TE (Edison Vushaj) pretty soon so if there was any chance of Dion playing in East Lansing, it might come to an end soon. Before you ask, yes...MSU usually wouldn't be in a position to NOT hold a scholarship for a guy like Dion Sims. But with only 16-18 scholarships to burn, it is looking less and less likely.

MSU actually got the commit from Derek Hoebing, instead of Vushaj. So yeah, we're done at TE. Anyone have any info on him or anything? Never heard of him. He's an Ohio kid. Good measurables and offers from Maryland, NU, and Virginia. Anything would be appreciated...
