'09 OH LB Julius Ferrell

Scouting Ohio

Junior Film: Huge kid and great athleticism to go with his size. Hits like a truck and moves fairly well in traffic. Limited film so it's hard to see a whole lot but you can see he is a very good athlete. I wonder what his grades are like because it would seem he would be a serious candidate for an offer if the grades were in order, regardless of position. I could see him at Mike but DE is more likely with his size. Could be a Shayne Hale type situation.

Another thing to remember is that we could be waiting to see how he comes back from his injury.

Maybe he won't get an offer until camps, or the first few games of next season are over.

Good point and that's probably why there is limited film from his junior year. Ferrell just has so much potential I would hate to see him left out of this class. I would like to see both Ferrell and Toussaint in this class, assuming grades, injuries, character, etc. are all in order.

I agree. Ferrell is someone I hate having to face every year. You know this dude is going to rack up some big numbers. On the other hand, if he's going to play at OSU, I think it's going to be on the DL or MLBer. Kinda like the DE for Michigan State. He needs to get his lower body stronger to carry his weight.

Watching ferrels films of last year and the first four games this kid belongs right in the middle at mlb in my estimation. I think he has a build to gain but a build to lose weight. He is relentless in the film at attacking the ball and taking good angles to the back, if he gets an offer i bet it will be at Middle Linebacker.

By BK...schools in contact include USC, LSU, Penn State, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Alabama and Arizona. Has been invited to OSU on 3/9 and says he is most interested in Ohio State, Penn State, Pitt and Syracuse.

Honestly I think that his best position could very well be DT...He would need more height to become a DE, because I don't think his arms are long enough to really play on the outside...

The kid is a football player, that arrives with bad intentions, but really doesn't have the body to fit as a prototypical LB or DE...

I feel bad that this kid got hurt for a portion of his junior season. That hurt his recruiting and I personally though he was the best Mlb in Ohio but now he isn't gettin talked about much. I hope osu offers but I don't see it happening but what ever school gets him gets a future superstar imo.

Will he outgrow the LB position and does he have the ability to play Dline...That is the main question...He is a tweener and most struggle to pinpoint him to a certain position...

I will revamp my query. Who would make a better fullback - Homan or Ferrell? (In the instance both are committed and one needs to play MLB, w/ Storm @ SLB & Whiting @ WLB)
The reason I ask is the questions regarding Ferrell's arm length and current size. I'm obviously aware the odds of him actually rx an offer are slim...

Yes I think Homan could play MLB at OSU. Maybe even DE in a year or so. Who would make a better FB not sure, I have only seen Ferrell one time so I hate to say.

From the Michigan site. Ferrell's coach says that Julius hasn't been hearing as much from schools as he thought he would, but that he thinks it is due to the injury he had last year. He says that Ferrel enjoyed his visit to Michigan with teamates Bell and Toussaint.
