'10 CA QB Nick Montana (Washington Signee; transfer to Tulane)

As usual I think people are reading way too much into comments.

"Montana said the three schools that made the biggest impact on his unofficial visits were Ohio State, Georgia and Alabama."

Conservatively speaking I'd say that between his Dad's visits, visiting his two sisters who both graduated from ND, and visits to his older brother Nick's been to ND about 50 times.

Nick's familiarity with ND is such that there is nothing that there is literally nothing that they could do to create an impact. Thus its logical that schools that he's never visited before (OSU, UGA, and UA) would make more of an impression than a place that he knows about as well as the back of his hand. I think that if you read that and think that ND isn't a factor you might be reading too much into the statement.

There is something to this as Jennifer has always run that family. But I don't think its a distance issue. Jennifer sent both of her daughters to ND as well as Nate. Given that I don't think there's any evidence to lead one to believe that mom won't let Nick stray too far from the roost.

Now you academic point is valid as that is a prime concern.

For the record just like Tai-ler Jones recruitment I've long felt that this is a Stanford/ND battle.

Isn't Nick the youngest? Don't you think that might be something you didn't consider when figuring how far his parents want him from home? I mean, you raise good points, and my guess is if Nick was set on Alabama his parents wouldn't stand in his way, just that they might prefer him closer to home which could play some factor in his decision.

It's possible, but we're attempting to read tea leaves here and I think the safest way to do that is to look at past precedent and go off those logical branches.

Jennifer wanting to keep Nick close home goes against all of her past actions. While not impossible for the sake of not attempting to guess off the completely unknown I'll wait until I see some evidence of it in this situation before I rule it in play.

Finally nothing scientific but Mothers are generally closer to their daughter than their sons. As such they usually want them closer to home than their boys. IMO if Jennifer was willing to send both of her daughters 3/4 of the way across the country, then I personally would be shocked if she put tighter clamps on her sons. And as I pointed out earlier Nate's already at ND so I think the chance of that scenario coming into play with Nick is almost nil.

Motherly wishes aside, I'm still baffled by the fact (?) that Coach Tressel has yet to meet Nick. I've seen this alluded to in this thread several times and don't think it's been refuted. How is it that our seemingly #1 QB recruit hasn't had an in-home visit with JT?

Scheduling conflicts. JT was at a coaches conference when Nick and Mom visited in March. If they come to OSU in the next few weeks i'm sure Mom will like what JT and staff have to offer. Either way way will get a good QB in this class.
