'10 OH QB Derek Roback (ND signee - transfer to Ohio U)

I just think there are bigger fish to fry at those positions...I would see Roback being a camp type offer, if he were to get offered, but I have been wrong before...

Agreed...Bolden and Gardner are probably ahead of Roback for now but I could see Derrick getting a camp offer. He is obviously an athlete and the question is how will he progress as a passer? If he shows well throwing the ball at camp, I could definetly see an offer.

I just see that if Roback were to get an offer it would be as an athlete and not a QB...

Don't see us going with a drop back QB for awhile...

So he's a good enough athlete to be offered as an ATH, but not a good enough athlete to play QB?

Roback strikes me more as being a Jake Locker or Dan Lefevour type quarterback rather than a traditional dropback quarterback.

I haven't seen anything other than highlights though.

Locker has Vince Young/Pryor type speed.. Roback is mobile, but not in that class in regards to running ability. I also look at him as an athlete, either QB or WR or S. His throwing mechanics are pretty rough, which make him a bit of a gamble IMO as being strictly one of our QB recruits.

I think he's going to have to show an ability to play on both sides of the ball and at various positions in order to get an offer. If you watch his tape, he's an athlete, a very good one, playing QB. And IMO, that lack of being a polished passer will work against him in regards to getting an offer. There are more athletic kids with similar mechanical issues who will likely get looks at the QB position before he does.

Even in Ohio, I look at Caleb Watkins as a kid with similar athletic ability, who is much more developed (in regards to mechanics) as a passer.

Roback has been visiting the MAC schools that offered, but is still looking. Plans on camping at Cincinatti, Wisconsin, and Colorado, three schools he likes. Thinks UW and Cincy are close to offering.
